2001 LS430 - 100K miles, $6k?
Lot of Lexus service history.
does $6000 seem within the ballpark?
- oxygen sensor replaced
- STABILIZER BAR BUSHING replaced
- rotors replaced recently
- replaced radio tuner
- replaced starter
- timing belt / water pump (2013, 20k miles ago)
does $6000 seem within the ballpark?

I haven't looked it up...but sounds high to me. You don't mention paint/body condition (wrecks, bodywork or rust (NY?)) and how about tires, brakes, battery, shocks etc? Those could be possible negotiating points. 2 keys? What colors? I would start lower on my opening offer and also keep looking at other options.

MIght seem high.....but if the body and interior are exceptional with no paint work or blemishes, it is well worth the price if mechanically sound. There are so many rags and abused cars out there, that finding a real well maintained exceptional body car should certainly bring the money regardless of the year.

If the interior is nice, and the paint/body is nice, I think $6k is definitely in the ballpark. If it had 200k miles instead of 100k I would say the price needs to be lower. Low mileage LS430s (and any car really) tend to bring premium prices from what I've seen.

What about a 2005 with 100k miles for $8000?

the 2005 doesn’t have ML speakers but the 2001 has them.
2005 100k $8000 ML
2001 100k $6000 non ML speakers

Go for the newer year and upgrades if you can swing it and they are about the same quality. About 2.5 yrs ago I got my '05 (with ML) with 110k and paid $10.3 for it. It just turned 140k and has had no major issues and has been a great car. It would suck to not have the ML but at least you can upgrade with aftermarket and make up for it.

Checking the 2005 Lexus service records, it recently had a check engine light.
P0750 shift solenoid A
the tech reset the light and it didn’t return.
Will this be problem? Worried they buried the problem.

I'd buy a case of Toyota ATF and do 3-4 drain and fills on the AT. Getting 9-12 quarts of new, clean ATF into the mix will generally smooth out shifts and maximize AT lifespan.

This is good advice for any car purchase that has a decent amount of mileage. Cheap insurance to know it's fresh

For a clean one owner car at $3500 you still have a nice cushion for any of the common repairs/issues that usually come up. Just make sure the 2nd timing belt/water pump was done along with the appropriate parts for the 2nd change somewhere near 180,000 miles. After that you are good to go. If done around 180,000 miles I wouldn't worry to much about changing again until 270,000 or 90,000+miles from the last replacement. It doesn't have to be exact as the OEM belts and water pumps are quite robust. Good luck!
PS....You have a bonus of 16" rims for a softer ride with cheaper tires!
