I have never done a brake job but countless DIY videos and forums tell me to apply a very thin layer of lube such as anti squeak on the back of the brake pads and on the top and bottom where it rides on the caliper where you have metal to metal friction. Also a very small amount on brake hardware. My mechanic friend argued against it and we were giving eachother's insight about who was right. He is a mechanic and yes I will respect his opinion and his argument is 1) when u buy car from factory, if it was so essential, why wouldn't the factory apply lube to it then? and his other point was 2) brake dust accumulates on the lube. My research such as from Chrisfix from youtube and countless other opinions show that you apply lube to prevent any squeak and for metal to metal contact it glides better with lube. My friend told me he has never seen a case where someone did a brake job without lube and it led to a squeak. I'm sure this is probably more in the gray area but I'm at loss. Should I lube it or not? Also yes, we both agree that you need to apply lube on the pin.

Also, i bought a tool from amazon to push back the brake piston when installing a new one. Capri Tools 21006 Disc Brake Pad Spreader Tool. My friend said that is only for single piston and would not work. What tool do I need to purchase for my 2011 Lexus GS350 RWD? Thank you. Hope i get many responses as possible

I always use lube on the slides and back of pads remove the rust with wire brush and apply just don’t make the mistake I made and bent the dust cover it will cause squealing easy fix but still lol

You should use lube, especially on the slides on GSs which are very prone to seizing.

Use fine sand paper sand the pins, guides, silencers etc. You can also clean the insides of the caliper with simple green and a tooth brush. I would lube everything inside the calipers, 3gs are known for having squealing brakes. I apply a liberal amount of regular grease inside the guides, on the center pin, and on the silencers and wipe off the excess when I finish.

Not putting grease is fine, but after time corrosion/rust will build up and squeal

You need my advice: you can lube if you want especially on shims. BUT MOST IMPORTANT thing you should always lube is the caliper PIN/guide. it will seize if you dont. WARNING: dont use any lube for these pins, else the rubber around them will swell. only use TOYOTA grease, get one tube and will last you the lifetime of your vehicle and you can use it on other cars. it is the best in the market. part#08887-01206
