LS460 ECU into GS460
Hello all
I've been doing some research about my 2008 GS 460 I picked up about a month ago and have put a couple thousand miles on, and stumbled upon someone who has successfully replaced the original TCM with one from a 08 IS-F (shifts faster and does rev matching):
This was plug and play, but it got me wondering about an ECU swap from an LS460, since the GS460 is detuned (380hp vs 342hp on the GS) so the LS was just as quick, even though the engine is exactly the same.
I know you can replace the ECU easily if you have the car's master key, jumping pins on the OBD port and waiting 30 mins, and coming back, but the question is would this work between car models?
I've looked at the connectors, harnesses, and pinouts for both cars and they are identical, just the model numbers and the car code is different (there are often multiple ECUs even for the same year, just different revisions).
If anyone has any ideas, or has experience and can give assistance about doing something like this it would be appreciated!
Thanks

Definitely an interesting idea! Aren’t there injection and compression ratio differences between the GS and LS tho?

1) This would be much much cheaper than renting dyno time and getting a tune done. You can get pulled ECUs for a little over $100, compared to around $1000 for a tune and dyno time at a minimum.
2) I wanted to try this because nobody else has before, and I'm willing to experiment some
If you could provide some links of some reputable tuners I could reach out and ask what exactly they do that would be nice.

I would contact these guys first about seeing if they offer it for the 460, they are not showing it on their website but pretty sure they will steer you in the right direction
