18" Base Tire Size
Hi everyone,
I have a pretty much stock 2013 GS350 with 18" wheels. My current tire size is 235-45-18. My personal opinion of them is that the tires, at least from the back look way too skinny, in proportion to the nice wide rear end the car has.
I was searching Discount Tire to try to see if I can up-size with a lower aspect ratio, give the allusion of a bigger wheel. The two tire sizes that help in a wider footprint and make the wheel look bigger seem to be 245-40-18 and 255-40-18.
I am very tempted to put on the 255's, and I believe the back would be okay, but concerned of potential rubbing in the front? Has anyone had any experience or know of any repercussions of up-sizing besides a little bit to the comfort and speedometer?
Thanks!

For the base wheels, the widest I would recommend would be 245. I believe 255 will be too wide for the front and cause rubbing. You can go with 245-40 but will lose some comfort as the 40 profile will be a tad skinnier. I may have to get tires soon (have 18" wheels) and was also contemplating upsizing from 235-45 to 245-45.

I run 18" wheels/tires and have chosen the 245/45 R18 100V XL BSW Pirelli Cinturato P7 A/S (P2337600) (Discount Tire# 14764) for my GS 350.

@@bclexus: have you noticed any difference at all with the 245 tires vs. your previous 235 tire?

Quick Update if anyone is interested: I ended up getting 255-40-18 and I love them. No rubbing and the tires are slightly wider then fender flares from the back and give the impression I have some spacers. I think it give the car a slightly more aggressive look and no impact to the drive with the exception of the speedometer which is very slightly off.

@jake443 Glad to hear you were able to get the size you wanted and it fit! I thought for sure the 255-40 would cause rubbing issues on the front - i guess with the stock offset (45mm) and stock wheel width of 8", 255's cleared. It could also be the tires you went with - what brand/model tire did you end up with?
I ended up going with the Yokohama Advan Sport A/S
I had Michelin Pilot Sports on another car and went with the Yokohoma YK series on my previous car, so I decided to do something similar for this car. I honestly think Yokohoma tires are a very close comparison to Michelins in terms of price vs value recieved...

Stock rims? How wide were they? Not sure if mine or 8" or not. I've got a 2013 lux pkg with the 18 spoke rims and 235/45R18s. Considering getting 245/45 next time I need tires to get a little more tread and a little more sidewall but don't want to go to wide and rub or be too wide looking for the rims.

Sounds good. Maybe I'll do that. 10mm wider and 4.5mm taller sidewall. A little larger footprint with slightly more sidewall give. Probably won't be anything very noticeable though. Worth it?

I can tell if I have 50-60 extra pounds in the car, or after adding 5-6 gallons of gasoline...or 1-2 psi difference in the tires, or if the seat is adjusted ¼ inch different.
