Default 08 LS - Brake Actuator

Dash lit up today with all the warning lights pertaining to brakes. It is likely that brake actuator issue that has plagued many owners. I’m beyond the 10 year period. How much has anyone paid to remedy this issue in a customer pay scenario. Anyone successful in asking for goodwill consideration from Toyota?

The one thing I am dreading but have a budget set aside for when it fails. I have a 2008 as well with 99K miles. I've done a brake fluid drain and fill from the refill reservoir annually & changed the old cap to ensure airtight seal. No issues yet.

Lexus corporate WILL NOT goodwill this part due to there already having been a warranty enhancement. Once that warranty enhancement is expired, you're on your own. According to corporate, it's a "company policy" to provide no further assistance after a warranty enhancement expires.

just did the brake actuator last month on my 07. cost was a little over $4,000 at the dealer. i bought a third party extended warranty and the $3,000 gamble paid off since it was covered. i also had to replace the junction box at the same time. not sure if this is part of the brake actuator repair, but if it is, it will be another $500...

What were the symptoms of your bad actuator?

Check back 4 years from now when the actuator is over 10yrs old. I don't believe Lexus made any improvements to the part and deemed 10 year as fair enough of a warranty to extend for the wear and tear part.

It's only 4 hours labor, it is the part that is the expense.

i think everyone's experience is different. for me, i started to feel like the brakes were kinda mushy in feel (like i had to step on them harder than usual to stop the car). this only happened when i was backing out of the driveway. when i was in drive, i started to hear a slight brake squeal. this was happening for a few weeks so i was having brake actuator anxiety since i knew about the issue and the sole reason for getting the extended warranty. then one day, the dashboard lit up like how everyone describes it. brought it in to the dealer since my independent mechanic does not do warranty work. i was still worried that the dealer would not take my warranty, but he told me when i got there that my warranty was from a reputable one and i was relieved after that.

Could you provide info on where you got the warranty from?

i got it from here. i purchased the platinum coverage, which was the highest level of coverage. purchased at 59k miles and the coverage was for 4 years (expires may 2020). the lexus dealership said the coverage was under The Warranty Group. just giving these details as your quote might vary, depending on level/length of coverage, mileage of LS, and your deductible.

Good to know! I wonder what the weak points were of the brake actuator. I heard it may be the weak seals?

UPDATE: Spoke with 4 Lexus Corp reps and no goodwill consideration after warranty enhancement ends on vehicle. Repair quote is $3,200. Will make a repair vs replace decision in next 5 days.
