Big problem in California, only a few converters meet their crazy standards...That sucks.

Bosal Cat was $150 from Amazon. It was just long enough to cover the length where the idiot cut my exhaust. Local shop welded and install for $70.

Someone w/ 400h in my neighborhood

got theirs stole a week later.

I would guess SUVs are an easy target given their ground clearance. Glad you got yours fixed, hope it doesn't happen again!

Not California compliant which means the Air Resources Board hasn't been bribed yet by the manufacturer. God I hate big government.

yeah... I mean the rx400h is considered a super ultra low emission vehicle to begin with. Using an aftermarket cat doesn't make the car the issue. I'm not in CA (would love to be some day), but as a car guy I can't see how I can ever make the move!

THE CARB is ran like a dictator, they make rules without even having the vote of the people. You know darn well the non CARB Cats work just fine.

I got flagged as a high emitter a few years ago in Los Angeles and replaced a worn out cat with a non-CARB cat on a CRX. Passed the tailpipe emissions with flying colors, but failed the visual inspection (with a mirror under the car) to verify the CARB plate. Had to buy another cat with a CARB compliant plate for twice the price. So, to your point, yes. The non-carb cats work just fine. Unless you get flagged as a high emitter, though, I have never had them look under the car. Just that one time.

Don't let the big govt get you down. I work for Uncle Sam.😀 I take my job seriously and watch out for the safety of the people. Keeping our air system safe.

Yes it is more a $$$ certification thing like UL. Heard CA is a bit extreme but never liver there.

Apparently the slev cats are more desirable. They contain more precious metals in order to get that designation.

Easy to be a car guy in Cali... Tesla!.... I still desire to test out the Ludicrous mode... And have the car go through traffic for me.
