Obsidian 212 color fender on Onyx black 202 noticeable? Or good enough to pass...
As the subject states. I want to put a obsidian black 212 color fender on my Onyx blk 202 is250. Before you guys say why not go to a paint shop and get the right color. Here is why.
1 fender is damaged at the edge (bacon fenders) due to being too low. Pretty much not the effort or worth repairing and needs replacing. My IS250 is a 06 so its the only year that offered black onyx. Rest of the years are obsidian 212, so I can find more 212 colored fenders than 202.
I want to get a OEM used fender, and not get a aftermarket one. If I get factory OEM NEW or even after market new, it needs painting... if the fender is just painted itself, getting paint to match 100% is possible but in the draw, and up to the body shop skills. I don't want to blend really as my paint is decently clean everywhere else so would rather keep OG finish, and blending raises cost.
I would rather find a clean used fender with natural fade and keep factory paint.
I know small things like spoilers and lips aren't noticeable between 212 and 202.... But what about something like a fender? Will it be that huge of a difference that it'll look stupid? Even getting a new fender and painting there will be a slight variation.
Any input would be great! I can get a used fender for around $200 with clean OG paint in OBSIDIAN 212. Cant find clean 202 ONYX in my area for cheap......Getting a aftermarket prepainted fender on EBAY is $350, Buying a used fender of any color and getting repainted will be $300-$400.

Without looking at the Paint Chips, I think you can certainly get away with your plan. Good luck.

thanks lou,
i saw those threads previously as well and the answers are still mixed. I posted a new thread for more feedback. Maybe this thread will help others wondering the same thing.
From research I know 212 has a clear, while some say 202 onyx is single stage. But, some people say 202 had clear on later models.
i tested to see if mine has clear and got even more confused as some panels have no color while rubbing with compound but some rub off a slight gray in different areas. The car is clean, so I don’t know if it’s sibgle stage or dirty clear.
regarding color match some say it’s good, while some say you can tell when your 1-2 feet away. One guy said you can only tell with a microscope.
So there is no definitive answer... I may be picking up a obsidian fender tomorrow so I will know first hand and share if I get it. I’m getting it cheap enough to do a trial, and hopefully there is no error.
