Noisy Sunroof at High Speed
Anybody have a sunroof that is noisy? My sunroof makes a lot of wind noise at 60+ MPH. The noise goes away when I close the sun shield. I wonder if this is normal or should I have the dealer take a look at? It seems to make a significant difference when the sun shield is closed. This is my third Lexus and never noticed this before.

Every sun/moon roof I've ever had (not a fan of 'em) have been noisy from wind noise with a deflector or without. The shade/shield reduces the wind noise alot, my ES is the quietest so far, but don't plan on using it very much if any.

>My 13' ES 350 does the same thing.
Ya, I really wish there was a sunroof delete option when ordering a car...
It is positively the least used feature in any car I've ever owned that had one.
grrrr.....

I replaced the sunroof seal P/N: 63251-30100. The sunroof is very quiet now, even with the shade open. The GS forum has a great DIY on how to do this. I would take the sunroof out of the car completely as it is easier to put the new seal on. You just pop off the side skirts on the sunroof and remove 4 T25 screws (5 minutes). Remove the glass from the car and peel the old weather strip off. Put the new sunroof seal on while lining up the green dots (10-20 minutes). When installing the glass back into the car you have to adjust the fit of the glass, otherwise the sunroof will sit too low into the car. Too adjust the level of the glass just push up on the corner of the sunroof until the glass is flush and tighten the bolt. Repeat for each corner of the glass (5 minutes). My sunroof before the new seal was installed was not flush with the metal roof, it was too low. My guess is that the seal had shrunk causing it to allow more noise into the cabin. When the new seal was installed and the sunroof was properly adjusted, the sunroof was flush with the car.

Strange. I've not had any noise issues with my 2014 ES/UL. In fact, I found it relatively quiet with the sunroof OPEN and going fast--compared to previous cars I've had with more "regular" sunroofs. Perhaps the full-glass roof sunroof (larger) smooths the air more.
