Default OVTune Lexus 8AR Platform Development

Hello Everyone,

for the last 8-9 months we have been working further on the complex code and logic of the 8ARFTS ecu (NX200,RC200,IS200, etc) and are happy to say that we have reached a point where we are working on several updates / tunes.
We recently picked up a vehicle dedicated for testing which will be here next week.

The vehicle will be starting from a 100% OEM standpoint with zero bolt ons and stock air filter.
We will be updating our current tunes with our all new 2.06 tune development.

(all versions of the tune will come with our new TCU modifications).

2.06 tune development consists of several major changes:
1. All 4D model tables for airflow control have been modified ( which controls throttle)
2. Airflow models / limits
3. Camshaft timing on both the INTAKE and EXHAUST cam
4. Ignition compensations, ignition tables and control flow modified
5. Fuel tables,
6. High pressure fuel pump control, Target pressure under boost and low rpm full boost
7. Toyota 4D airflow multiplier tables (16) remapped
8 Completely redesigned and new TCU mapping for S / S+ and other driving modes.
and multiple other things including torque limitation increases,

All of the above and much more will be implemented into every version of our tune, with special / additional things for the ethanol tune. We will first be developing a map for E50 and then test this long term to see how the HPFP holds up over long periods.

We are extremely confident in what we are now capable of doing in this platform after studying the code for nearly a year. We know we have been pretty much silent on the platform for quite a while after initially doing some development 2 years ago for the IS200T. We are very happy to say that we are coming back to the platform and will have new things available soon (target timeframe for ST0/1/2 is December-January). Tuning for bolt ons, bigger turbos are no longer a dream!

We are starting from a 100% stock low mileage IS200T F-Sport 2016 MY.

Our Tune / update Flash will be for:
Flash Stage 0
- 91 octane / 93 octane and with 100% stock vehicle
Flash Stage 1
- 91 octane / 93 octane with aftermarket intake, catback exhaust
Flash Stage 2
- 91 octane / 93 octane with intake, full exhaust (STOCK downpipe)
Flash Stage 3
- 91 octane / 93 octane with intake / full exhaust / aftermarket catless downpipe
Flash - Custom E50
- E50 Tuning with full bolt ons

So, working further on our Stage0 93 octane flash we found a few places that boost leaks from the stock plastic piping, and created a quick replacement for all piping to continue testing.

Above 22psi the stock rear plastic intercooler pipe / coupler that attaches to the water/air intercooler on our vehicle leaked boost, so we quickly replaced all piping including the resonator above the heat shield to further testing.

The coupler on the rear seems to have worn from heat cycles and oil residue,

**this is for testing purposes**

Lexus apparently limits the throttle angle until a certain RPM. This means no full throttle until you rev it out. This is what causes the notorious throttle delay (not turbo lag) on this car. The plate just won't fully open when you launch the car.

So far no tuner has been able to tune that out. May be a hardware limitation of some sort. I don't know.

Can you fix that?

Hoping for good results. What are you guys targeting for boost levels and will different drive modes dictate TCU map and boost tables?

Yes we are well aware of it, it's software limited not hardware, we've been studying the code for a long time and know how to solve it we will show everyone with our development car

Sounds good. Note TTI claims to be pretty decent with a keyboard and after jabbing of the fingers for what seems like months or years, even they weren't able to fully remove the limitation. So would be interesting to see if you guys can!

TTi probably didn't get help from Toyota though

sounds exciting!
Hopefully a 0-60 time at least as good as a stock BMW 328i/330i can be achieved since they also use a 240 HP 2.0L 4 turbo engine with 8 speed auto.

BMW does it around 5.6s. Lexus does it around 6.9s. Fingers crossed!

How bad are the tires on the shop car? That’s a lot of wheel spin in 1st and 2nd. I’m waiting to see dyno numbers. The shifts looked promising.

Tires have less than 15k miles on them.

A bit more info,
we will be sharing with you guys some of what we do in the ECU and why, and what it changes.

For example we have smoothed the boost curve from stock to our curve

We have modified the atkinson / otto feature on the intake camshaft, along with tuning the intake camshaft for more power above 4000 rpm, and more torque under 3000 rpm

This is just the bread crumbs of what we are doing...
Quick log taken from our 93 ST0 Map.
log is 1rst gear from 2000 RPM all the way through the top of second gear.
ZERO THROTTLE REDUCTION.
ZERO TORQUE REDUCTION
Full Throttle Full Boost.

more is coming ...

Is a cat-back really going to be required for the sage 1 and up. I'm willing to do the DP, TIP, and CP, but don't really want the noise associated with a cat-back.

The shift speed looks great. I bet Sheddy can't wait to get this!
