Default 2014 Door actuator

This appears to be a big problem with at least the ES as I had one fail on my 2009 and now I am going on my 2nd with my 2014. How many other have this problem, as this seems to be a design flaw!

Yes, there have been a handful of posts on CL related to door lock actuator failures with the Generation 6 ES. However, considering that over 350,000 Generation 6 ES vehicles have been sold and, also, that CL likely gets more traffic from those who own Lexus vehicles than any place on the internet, the number of reported issues with door lock actuators has been relatively small and could hardly be described as a "big problem" or one related to a "design flaw".

In fact, reports of failures of any types components for the ES here on CL have been quite small, and the Generation 6 ES has shown itself to be an especially reliable vehicle.

If you have had multiple door lock actuator failures, that might just be bad luck and not necessarily the result of a "big problem" or a "design flaw".

I remember back in 2004 I bought a Tacoma Truck that didn't have power locks. I went to an Alarm/Car Stereo place in bought an alarm for it. The salesman was telling me all of the features that the alarm with remote had and when he got to the power locks I stopped him and said I didn't have that feature. He told me he could add it for an additional $70. The charge was for 2 actuators for both doors. I took him up on the offer and learn to love the power locks although I did have to press a button on the remote. I don't see why those actuators wouldn't work on a Lexus???

I replaced my drivers side last week, was about a 30 minute job and used a $40 shipped actuator from Amazon.

I'm on my 2nd replacement in a 2014.
Obviously this is an issue, they covered the first one with goodwill but not the second one.

I'm fine with wear items needing replacement, but replacing door actuators before brake pads is just silly.
There is an issue with the door locks, it should be covered under goodwill.

It's weird that both of you had the same thing go out 2x. Is it the same one, or a different door?

My original failure was drivers side door now it’s the passenger front door. Just to add to this the rear passenger was starting to act up also. My guess is that Lexus needs to look at all failures from this part, as it is probably used on other models and possibly Toyota also. All I know is $500 is too much!

Glad to here that there is a cheaper alternative to paying Lexus $500. I see that you have own several other Lexus's over the years in you signature file.. Has this been a problem on any of your former cars?

Seems like they had a bad batch around the time both of you're vehicles were built. I don't know what else would explain having the issue multiple times.

Not too difficult actually. There are like 3 or 4 screws holding on the door panel to remove, then peel back the plastic (carefully so you don't mess it up), disconnect the rods, and remove/replace the actuator. Just be careful not to break any plastic clips.

None of my other ones had this issue, except my GS300, but it was over 15 years old when I got it. I agree with all that it is an annoying issue, but I would rather have something like this that is easily fixable in your garage with a screwdriver than something mechanical with the drivetrain.

My 2014 had the driver side replaced right before I bought the car, then passenger side acted up basically from the day I bought
it. Reported it to my dealer but by the appointment date the car was a week out of warranty. Service manager was an annoying guy that wasn't really looking to help me out. I made enough of a stink that Lexus did it as a one time courtesy.

maybe you have kids like mine who love to keep pressing the lock button multiple times for no reason when locking.
