Recommendations for shipping my newly acquired LS460L?
Hey all, sorry to bother. New member but long time reader on CL. Been driving a 2001 LS430 for the past 7 years (just hit 200k miles and still rides and looks as new as when I got it) which I still love, but finally gave in and got a beautiful 2011 LS460L. Looking to ship it and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on car shipping services? There are plenty online via uship that seem reliable but thought I'd ask here first.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Definitely get the shipping insurance. My brother-in-law declined insurance from the shipping company while transporting his car. It was a nominal cost and his cheapness returned to bite him when his car was delivered with damage. Sure, his insurance took care of it but it was a drawn out process (months) and I am pretty sure he paid a deductible, whereas getting the shipping insurance would have repaired his car without any fuss. This was probably 10 years ago but I recall insurance at the time was something like $24 on top of the $900 shipping cost. I would have just driven the car and enjoyed the roadtrip but apparently not everyone enjoys driving (referring to my BIL, not you, cooltech).

I'll keep that in mind, thanks.
And believe me, there's nothing that I would enjoy more than taking this on a road trip (and I will be doing exactly that in ~ 1 month), but unfortunately my work schedule is a bit prohibitive for getting the car from where I bought it (near family in Chicago) to where I work (upstate NY).

This shipper is a sponsor on the Porsche forums, and seems to be well regarded - http://www.intercitylines.com/

Congratulations on the car!
Agree with Dave's recommendation based on prior research, though I've never used them. FWIW, another company that transports "gems": http://reliable-carriers.com/ They transported my 600 from Portland, OR to Boston.

My opinion: Ship yourself to the car, and then drive it back. Its less expensive, quicker, and no one will take as much care of the car as you.
I have an enclosed trailer and did some Uship work on the side … back 10 years ago. The other guys that ushipped that I met, would never brush their tooth and had rattling noises inside their skull when their heads moved. Seriously, those guys were … dense, and broke almost everything they touched. Today, those guys work at car dealerships.

Appreciate all the info guys! Going to try and work out my work schedule to be able to fly back and drive the car here if I can. If I can't work out my schedule, will check out the guys you recommended dave and caha. Thanks again!

cooltech - I flew to Los Angeles and the PO picked me up at the airport. I drove the car from 90210 to 30269 (cross country). And loved every minute of it. It was like a short man's vacation. No complaints from anyone, and all about a car. I hope you can work it out. Good luck!

I've shipped out and received many cars over the years with varying degrees of satisfaction. I can say for sure you get what you pay for in this game, so be careful going with the lowest bidder. I did this once with a very cheap car to save money and the broker quoted me a price and had apparently told the driver another so the driver was expecting more money upon delivery which was about 3 seconds from evolving into a physical altercation. Scum of the earth is who you deal with going through brokers. On the flip side a buyer spent big bucks on one of the high end carriers to ship an Alfa I restored. The driver raised the deck with the door open and the ramp chain crushed the door. The driver was a nice guy but overworked and tired. My recommendation on a used LS is to go with a company that's middle of the road on price and try your best to vet their reputation.

If you don't mind, where did you end up settling on price? They were high on that car but it was singularly the BEST one I've seen out there in terms of options and color. Cars like that one are rare birds. Sincere congrats and envy here. I had hoped after they had it awhile they'd be more willing to deal.
