Default What don’t you like about your SC

Guys,
i don’ Know if this topic has ever been discussed . If it has, just ignore.
i know we all love our SC, I am sure there are things that we don’t quite like. So I go first.
1. Back seats. I wish they just give us some angle on the back rest.
2. Outdated stereo system. I know, the car designed in 2001, but they could updated it in 2006, the technologies were there.
3. Cup holders. They could have the cut out to sink the cups deeper.
4. Trunk space. Well I don’t know what they can do about this.
5. Shine reflection of dashboard on the windshield. It blinds you sometimes.
That’s my list. Not too bad. I have an 07, many improvements were made, i’m sure you guys with pre 06, the list probably longer.

Its not fast enough.

a super or turbo charged version would have been excellent.
or if it had a bigger V8. Let’s face it, 4.3l is a very small V8.
i know, that’s all Toyota had at the time...or did they?
the Tundra 5.7l engine would have been nice!
it debuted in 2006 and had 381hp. It would have been a nice engine for our SC570!!!

If there were updated Safety features,
better cup holders,a stereo with better features,
the antenna that does not look as silly,
a soft top option, the SC would be perfect.

I don’t see the need for bigger engine. For me, the SC is fast enough. I don’t even use PWR ECT or S mode, and still feel like I am running out of roads. I guess because I live in populous city, where streets and freeways are always congested.
I used to teach traffic school, and found out the most ticket written are for speeding.

Are you thinking soft top option to get more room in the trunk?

That they don't make it anymore. This is plus/minus - As time goes by they become more unique or rare, but for the very SC specific repairs associated with it's electronics, convertible top, etc., it may be more difficult over time to find parts and experienced/competent mechanics who have performed this type of work more than once.

I would not buy a SC if it had been a soft top. I fell in love with it because the look, the convertible and the quietness.

The soft top would give the car better gas mileage
and I think more trunk space.

If you want the soft top you buy a solara.

The hard top was a big selling point to me. It is quieter and more secure and doesn't have to be replaced after sitting in the Texas sun for a few seasons.

Jonas, I'm guessing that you are stating that it would help improve gas mileage by reducing the weight, right? (I would think that it would also degrade the aerodynamics drag of the car.)

My SL has both a soft and hardtop so that was what I was
thinking. But the problem with the SL is that the hardtop
had to be lifted off the car and does not store inside the trunk.

I digress. Still Luv the SC for what it offers. I keep forgetting
the 430 is now 8-17 years old depending on what year
tour SC was made from 02-10

Having convertibles generally comes w/ some sacrifices (trunk space, back seat). I consider this a two-seater w/ a bit of storage behind the front seats. But the three things below leave me scratching my head from an engineering perspective. Still love the car and am grateful I finally was able to get one!

1. The battery drain issue. When I bought my 09 last year, I ended up going through three batteries in 2 mos! Funny - when I bought it, it appeared to have the orig 8 yr old battery in it. I was surprised I was able to even drive it to my mechanic for inspection (he's the one who saw it and pointed it out). I negotiated $ off the purchase to install a new Interstate. After not driving it for 10 days, the battery dies. Thought maybe it was a bad new battery. Got a new one; after a bit, I had not driven for 6 days and boom. Happened again. Got a third new battery. Had my mechanic look for the source of the drains so I could address it once & for all (brought him all the data I found on this site, thank you!) and nothing stood out as "ah ha!" Lurked on this site a year before purchasing, so I knew some ppl had bad battery issues, but some apparently did not. I took the risk anyway and it is what it is. I hook it to a battery tender always now. I have to put a big sign on my roof above the driver's door, warning myself to unplug it BEFORE I get in Grrr.
And I have a portable jumper box should I decide to take this car on a trip and heaven forbid, not drive it for a few days. For the $ I paid and the wonderful car this is, I just feel the battery thing should NOT be happening.

2. Cup holder. Seriously. It's more of a projectile launcher / drink spiller. Reading about that here saved me from making a huge mess.

3. This is kinda nit-picky, but the trunk release and gas cap door release buttons. Why so far to get to?

Good thing this car is so darn cute. And so many great things about it. When I open the garage, I see that beautiful back end & I smile.
Then just the tiniest hint of eye-roll at the green light of the tender....

Guys

yea,my SC went dead after not driving it for about....
10 days. I did put a brand new battery in the car
less than 3 years ago and also brought the car to the dealership

The dealer checked for a parasitic draw, alternator
and it all checked out. You would think a dealer would
want to make some money to repair the car but
everyrhing checked out

1. It needs better seat design for lateral support during cornering. I don't like getting thrown around.
2. Better placement of front speakers. They get scraped by the shoes while getting in and out.
3. Make the special editions more special.
4. Less unnecessary gadgets to fix. I don't need headlight washers or antenna in the windshield.
5. Speakers are not durable for the system.

That's it for now.

Added to my list:
6. Run flat tires (I don't mind now) but when time to replace them with regular tires, the big bucks for spare tire kits.
7. Laughable antenna.
