Default rim damage from wheel cleaner

hello guys,

I messed up my Fsport gunmetal rims with Meguiers hot wheels. I have used this stuff forever but this time i may have left it too long. When I sprayed down the wheels, there are black marks and that wont come off.

Can I use something like compound to remove this? I dont want to damage my wheels any more then they are.

thank you

Do you have a pic so we know what you're working with in terms of how the rims look now?

The cleaner you had used corroded the gun-metal paint, thus the darker undercoat is showing now.

Have the same issue on my F sport rims caused by the previous owner. Only way to fix them is the get them refinished.

I would recommend using a acid-free based wheel cleaner next time.

I had the same issue from the previous owner as well. Debating on coating them again to just get the whole wheel the same color... or just plastidip until I get new wheels.

Mine are like the picture above, just a little worse from the previous owner. Acid cleaners.

I did plasti-dip expecting to not like it and remove it the next weekend. It actually looks fine. I've been asked 4+ times if I powdercoated. 6 coats of plastidip and 2 coats of clear on top.

However....it is not durable and starting to scratch. I will be taking it off soon to resurface wheels or powdercoat black again.
