You end up with a blemish and/or dent one way or another. Or or am I missing something?

Ive asked my dealer for a quote for installing rails and mud guards. I’m picking up Tuesday so need to decide.

Now I’m going to read threads about tinting...

Agree. IMO, I do not like the look of the body side molding. Think it breaks up the line of the car. Where I park very hard for someone to ding me. Where in NC are you because I have a great tint and paint protection person.

They're supposed to protect the doors against the most common of dings. Those caused by other's doors. In my case, it's saved me from dozens of dings. My wife's CR-V is always parked next to my ES in the garage. I can't count the number of times she's opened her door into mine. Not one hint of a ding in them in over 5 years.I highly recommend them, unless you like that "weathered" look.

I have a car that is in pristine condition. No scrapes, scratches, dings, or dents. Not because I have side molding but because I'm extremely careful where and how I park. As soon as I saw my car I wanted side moldings. It is definitely a matter of esthetics. Watch the idiots that put shopping carts next to your car instead of returning them 10 feet to a corral. Or the moron that swings their door open on a windy day and puts a $500.00 dent in your door. Side moldings do prevent damage and so do mud guards. I have them both and these are two reasons why my car is almost perfect after 6 years....

Yes, my wife has to use a parking garage at work with tight spacing. The front passenger molding itself now has a bunch of chips...

I’m just north of Charlotte. Thanks.

My wife’s definition of a “good” parking place is solely based on proximity to the door. I’m much more cognizant of ding prevention but on 100deg NC days I can’t blame her a bit.

I guess that’s my point: isn’t a chip by any other place still a chip? Or can molding be replaced if/when it gets bad. I would think that the color wouldn’t match.

I also highly recommend the side moldings. Our bare doors are so smooth that even a minor ding would be noticeable. Have the moldings on my 2014 ES and despite being a very careful parker, they show a lot of minor nicks that would have otherwise ended up on the doors. I also actually like the look of these. And to answer another poster, the nicks on the moldings are basically unnoticeable and so there is never a need to replace the moldings. Being softer than the sheet metal they sort of cushion the blow.

What’s a good price to accept from the dealer?
How about for mud guards?

Don't know what dealers are getting these days for the moldings and install. I paid $99.99 online from a dealer in Texas and installed them myself. As far as mudguards, you can buy them online on Ebay for about $40.00. Thy fit perfectly and take no more than 30 minutes to install. No removal of your tires is required and only one hole must be drilled in the rear
PLASTIC fender. Dealers, I think, are charging around $150.00 for the mudguards. They are a very easy DIY job...

I’ll definitely pay a premium for moldings since money is much cheaper than living with crooked rails!

Does the car have to be jacked up to do mudguards?

Thanks

No jacking necessary and the front fender screw holes will match the guards. If you decide to DIY get stainless screws and I put a dab of black paint on the screw head after installation.
