Default First Change with Amsoil

Took my ride in yesterday for my 35,000 mile service and took a case of Amsoil Signature Series 0w20 in to try. I've run it in everything I own for 20 years and loved it. I always change it every 8-10 thousand even though you can run it longer. Been very impressed with the TGMO I've been changing every 5 thousand on my ride since new, but gonna see if I can eeeekk out another mile or two per gallon with the Amsoil. I know the Amsoil is good stuff. How many forum members here use it in their LS's and their experience with it, milage, lifter noise, etc?

Signature is EXCELLENT oil and I use it in all my vehicles except the LS because the car is still under warranty and I don’t want any problems with Lexus, so I go to the dealer for my oil changes..... However once the warranty expires I will be switching to Amsoil Signature and using their oil filters too.

It would be interesting to see how Amsoil performs with the LS and GS. I once considered Amsoil but with shipping it would cost over $100 just for the oil I wanted which I was not going to pay and I doubt I would wait 10 thousand miles between changes to where it may not be so bad financially.

Funny thing is when I was debating on trying Amsoil, I ended up just getting German Castrol. Only a few months after doing the oil change I took my GS to the Toyota dealership because it would make a strange groaning/growling noise in the engine area and I asked if they could look at, they did not find anything but they accidentally changed my oil even though I did not request it. I was a little angry because I wanted to see how the German Castrol ran for a couple thousand miles but I would have been absolutely furious if I had put Amsoil in there and was going to do a 10,000 oil change to try to make it make sense financially but it got changed prematurely.

I always wanted to try German Castrol when I had my BMW but could never find it. Suppose to be really good for those type of cars. I normally let my dealer change my oil with the TGMO when I go in every 5000 miles, but gonna try this once at least 8000 and send my oil off for an analysis just for curiosity. I kinda like the TGMO, but run Amsoil in everything else I got. I kinda don't think it matters as long as you change regularly, but like to have really nice oil in my baby. Just real interested to see if I can get a few more miles per gallon. I'll keep ya'll posted

It is tough to find but a few chain places carry it occasionally but they only carry it in 1 quart bottles. My GS430 actually got totaled in a rear end collusion right after I had to drive some distance to find a place that had German Castrol OW 30, I still have it, it is actually sitting right next to me now in a box. German Castrol is one of the very rare few Group 4 synthetics you can buy at a store if you can find it.

The post of the service records of a 346k mile ls460 using TGMO and 5k changes would seem to show that that combo is a good as anything made.

I agree Caflashbob that the TGMO is some great stuff suppossedly formulated for our LS's. But i'm thinking the Amsoil is superior still if one wants to pay the premium for it. I've got full warranty on mine till Aug. of 2026, and will be keeping it passed that. I'm a little nutty when it comes to my cars. But no doubt the motor will last longer than our enjoyment of driving it. Just gonna do a mileage test and oil analysis for *****s and giggles

Just FYI, most dealers do NOT use TGMO for their oil changes. Unless you specifically request TGMO, you likely get drum unbranded synthetic oil.

Do you recommend me using amsoil signature series for a transmission drain n fill since this is will be my 1st drain n fill at 110 on a gs350? Because I’m thinking to switch over to Amsoil products for engine oil and brake fluid and differential as well, thanks for your time

You'd have to use the Signature Series Fuel Efficient, which supposedly is Toyota WS capable. It costs almost 20 bucks a quart, not including shipping. Whereas I think you can get Toyota WS for $10 bucks a quart at your local dealer...or Aisin tranny fluid for even less. So, I think it’s really up to you to decide if it’s worth paying twice as much for a fluid that is probably going to last you 50,000-100,000 miles regardless. It won’t make your car “better”, it won’t make it shift better or make your car faster or more responsive. But having said that, I do think Amsoil fluids are always the “best”, but I just honestly don’t think any of them are necessary for what they cost vs what they do for normal everyday driving. IMO.
