Default towing with a 2017 GS 350

Can U tow a 5 x 10 Uhaul trailer with a load of under 1,000 pounds? What are the hitch requirements for a GS 350?

Check the owners manual in your glove compartment. There is an entire chapter on proper towing weights and calculations.

The answer is no, you cannot tow any trailer with the GS per Lexus recommendations. With a 1250lb empty trailer and 1000lb load you would be WAY over all weight limits.

Rent a truck to tow that Uhaul.

Wow....yeah, the GS is not a vehicle to be used for towing. #SMH

I towed a fully loaded trailer twice the manufacturers recomended weight capacity and had no issues on a 2010 Honda CRV 2.4l. As long as you maintain a safe distance for braking, don't speed, your good to go. I dont see why i couldn't do it with the GS, definatly has the power.

Idk why you would buy a nice car like this and then use it to tow stuff. I'd think if you are driving this car you could afford a uhaul rental instead. That said, I don't doubt that the car could pull a decent amount of weight with a properly installed hitch.

Maybe he pulls a small trailer on a regular basis that has to do with his hobby or business.

That's true. I just wouldn't buy this car knowing I had to tow stuff with it all the time, but to each his own.

i mean if you tow on a regular basis buy a truck... they're pretty nice. if its a one time deal rent a uhual or ask a friend cause thats cheaper than screwing with your GS

Part of the problem though is Uhaul trailers are pretty heavy to begin with. IMHO they're probably overbuilt because they fear liability concerns (as well as they know that
people will abuse the hell out of them). Friend of mine is a uhaul dealer and he tows those things around with his Jeep Wrangler, and he states that while towing them around unloaded is OK, that they are pretty heavy.

Now if the OP was going "I want to buy one of those teeny 1 axle utility trailers at tractor supply so I can move my snowblower around with my GS" then the scale of the problem is now dramatically reduced, one of those with a small snowblower or lawn tractor on it, even in its totality, is probably well under 1000 pounds and you could likely pull this off without worrying too much. Or like lets say he wants to use the trailer to move a bulky object like a piece of furniture or something, something which won't fit in the car but doesn't weigh much. That's way easier than a dual axle uhaul utility trailer. IMHO a 5 x 10 dual axle trailer has no business being attached to a modern sedan. That trailer unloaded being pulled by a sedan is going to be serious problems, lol.

A small trailer would not be a problem for the drive train, certainly no more than carrying 5 people and a trunk full of luggage. My main concern would be how the ABS would perform if a panic stop were required. Granted, it would still be better than the old days before ABS but an inexperienced driver might not account for the increased stopping distance so be careful.

Maybe he wants to tow a jet ski...or something just a tad bigger.

Default Tow Hitchs for GS series Lexus

I'm guessing that adding one might invalidate your warranty (in the US and in NZ), however if you are out of warranty, I think that one of these would be fine seeing as they seem to be commonly available in the UK.
