In the market - tips appreciated
Hello, I'm a current '14 IS350 F-sport owner and have been looking for something a little bigger with more power and discovered, to my disbelief that a gently used GSF is within striking distance price wise. I was ready to walk away from Lexus because I couldn't see myself buying a GS with a lower power to weight ratio than my IS... then I discovered the RCF/GSF. While I have yet to test drive a '17 GSF model (test drove a '15 RCF and '16 GSF), I am sold on the AVS and customized drive mode offered in the '17s over the previous year. The '16 GSF I test drove rode just fine and I had no real issues with the suspension, but I think I would kick myself if I didn't hold out for the '17.
Anyway enough rambling. I've looked online and the used '17 inventory nationwide is pretty low right now so I anticipate a long process to find the right car at the right price. Good thing I'm in no rush! Unless it's a deal I can't refuse, CPO seems to be the best bet as it extends the warranty and provides road side service and a couple years of service.
If anyone has any tips on what to look for in a GSF or any other considerations I'd appreciate it. Hopefully there will be more '17s hitting the dealer's lots soon.
Thanks in advance!

I was set on 2017 gsf as well, but there are amazing deals on 2016 CPO right now. Found one I couldn’t turn down. But if you are set on the adjustable suspension then you should go for 2017.

i don't get the hoopla on the adjustable suspension to be honest. is it more of a case of, if it's an option, i want it? even on the '16, i haven't found any reason to feel like the suspension is inadequate in any of the modes in any of the terrain i've gone over. i say if you find a 16 for a great deal, don't let the adaptive suspension hold you back.

2016 ZF suspension is far better than 2017+ adjustable one... unless you want full comfort and don't care about road feel.

Does anyone know the production numbers on '16 vs '17? There aren't many '17s right now and a lot of '16s and was wondering if it was due to the leasing cycle ('17s haven't been turned in or traded yet) or if there were just alot more '16s built.

What I really need to do is drive a '17 and let that be the determining factor. Right now I'm assuming the AVS will make a difference I can feel. If I can't tell the difference then no need to pass on a '16.

Yes, you need to get seat time in both and factor in the types of roads you usually drive and if you are a spirited driver or a bit mellower.
My opinion, cannot go wrong either way as long as your wallet agrees.

Yes I definitely need to drive a '17. Unfortunately there isn't a '16 or '17 within 150 miles of where I live. The '16 I test drove was in another state! There is one near DC so I'll have to get up there and drive it.

You're definitely right about customers hopping on them.
