Shift position indicator plate
After almost 20 years the plastic shift indicator plate is tired..delaminated, and scuffed.
Decided to replace... P.N. 35970-50110

Old vs new....the plastic has internal .delamination, so polishing alone will not cure this issue.
The new plate is imroved design in that the plastic surround is more of a matt finish instead of glossy molded plastic appearance...so fingerprints do not show easily.

Not too difficult, but must be careful when removing wood trim cover/ashtray over shift mechanism.
Some brittle plastic parts to watch out for when separating components.
There appears to be an adhesive strip underneath shift plate that adheres it to clear light pipe plate beneath.
Have ordered that and other parts before proceeding.
Right mow am seeking answer to this question:

Yodaone- What year is your LS400? Mine is a 97. I looked at the shift indicator on mine & it looks just like the one you've shown w/ the 2 slots on the left (lower left for ECT & upper left for the key slot), however when I checked one of the Lexus web sites, it shown p/n 35970-50040 for car w/o air suspension. Just wanted to make sure before I order one. Thanks

Yodaone- I've read your other post & yours is a 98-00, that's why the p/n is different. For car w/ air suspension, there will be another slot on the shift indicator to accommodate an additional switch so it also carry a different # as well. Thanks

Acquire new plate before removing old so you can study how it locks in place
Extracting the rocker switch from the old plate is a bit challenging...
If not sure how to do then take old plate to dealer when picking up new plate and request assistance
Side of power switch that is mounted in transmission selector plate. Lances on the side of switch (above word "TOYOTA") requires a thin blade be inserted on both sides of switch body between revess walls to permit extraction from plate.
Switch body lances lock into these catch holes.
Another view depicting switch halfway removed. While accessible, good time to replace the switch bulb...insert small screwdriver into the circular plate slot and 1/8 turn counterclockwise and bulb assemly pops out.

Do you have p/n of the bulbs & color filter? Are they listed in the diagram you've shown? You're very thorough. Thanks.
Btw, I've posted my comment explaining the flip-flop device or chip on the ECU board another forum member had talk about. Your switch appears to be 100% functioning as it should be.

Yodaone- How did you remove the wood trim cover/ashtray? How many tabs are there? Please also provide the p/n of the bulbs & color filter so I can order all at once. Thanks.
