paint Chipped on my rcf
#2
I opened this post thinking it was some paint chips because I fixed a few on my RC F. However I was not expecting a big *** scrape lol. I would do what Patrix said. Maybe invest in a spinning buffer. I got that and it worked pretty well on some surface scratches. The actual black part with paint missing, you can use touch up paint but it will not work that well. Use your insurance if anything.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but there is no way that is buffing out. As one member posted, companies paint bumpers all the time and $300 is a fair price to have the bumper dropped, painted, reinstalled and as good as new. Might want to also avoid cement walls or whatever cement you bumped up against for as you learned, it does not take much.

If you do go to a shop to have it fully repainted, I would suggest to the shop to use Glasurit paints versus Du Pont, PPG, etc. A lot of the high end body shops use Glasurit to match formulations to OEM 4-stage paints for exotics/super/hypercars. Local Lexus dealer to me had to paint my fender after some getting side swiped, they couldn't match it using PPG. They tried to paint 10+ sample panels to try to match formulations using PPG, they even brought in PPG experts themselves to the dealer along with Lexus engineers/specialists that came down from corporate because the paint guys at the dealership just couldn't get the right shade. I suggested them to use Glasurit, but they told me they can't go outside of their PPG contract. My car was at Lexus for 3.5 months because they couldn't match the MP. But finally, they finally took my advice of using Glasurit paints just for my car, and they got it in one shot! Everything is on point from the color shade to the right amount of pearl/sparkle the MP has.

+1. After you filled the chipped area with touch up paint, clear it, then buff/polish it out to smoothen it to make it less obvious.
I would not go with anyone that would paint my Molten Pearl bumper for $300. OP's MP RCF has a 4-stage paint job (also USB and Infrared), I would not take the car to any body shop that offers the lowest price because 4-stage paint to match is hard, and only the "good" ones will be able to match closely, but good body shops won't be cheap.

I remember, soon as I drove the car in, the collision service agent told me, "oh man, this is gonna be hard". He said I was the 1st MP to go to their collision center, they've had Infrared and USB RCF repaired there before, and they also said those were headaches. He already knew matching Lexus' 4-stage was going to be rough. He also said the USB RCF was their for a minute for paint, and took them a while to get the match on the 4-stage down. This car was there long enough, where he said Lexus (or maybe the dealership) covered several months of his lease/finance payments while it was getting repaired. (I wonder if this person in on ClubLexus..)

Not sure exactly how much it cost, insurance paid. I would try to buff out most of what you can with compound and buffer and see how it looks after. If you can get most of the white scrapes off, just touch up the small nick with touch up, and call it a day. Save $500+ and the most likely possibility of your whole bumper not matching the same shade as your car. I wouldn't risk the whole bumper mismatched to fix a small nick that probably would not be too visible after touch up (assuming that clear coat scrape mostly buffs out). But thats just me. I'm not saying it's impossible, but harder to match for sure. I wouldn't go to just any body shop if you are going to get it resprayed. Maybe have Lexus dealership/Lexus Certified Collision center paint it? That's the best advice I can give you, but just speaking from what I've learned personally through my experience dealing with a Lexus Certified Collision center trying to match my MP. They kept trying relentlessly until they found a way to match it (going outside of their PPG contract). If I took my car to a small mom/pop type of body shop, I'm not sure if they would keep taking the time to try to match until it did. Any other small non-Lexus/non-OEM certified body shop may have told me to get lost after getting it "almost" matching. My Lexus dealership straight up, matched it 1000% until I was happy. I hope the dealership you go to has the same customer service. The Lexus dealership I took my car to get fixed, most definitely lost money on my car from spending so much time to try to match it.
