Gas pump keeps shutting off - '15 IS350 F Sport
Anyone else encounter this?
This is a new to me '15 IS350 F sport that I've only had for 3 months, so I'm slowly finding out some of its quirks. Anyway, this shut off happens randomly and at any gas station pump. I ignored it initially because I thought maybe it was a defect in the gas pump I was using, but highly doubting thats the case at this point. Any idea as to what it could be? And is there any tsb out for this? My car is still under warranty and will bring it up at the 30k service visit.
Thanks
P.S. Yea, I know how to pump gas :P

It's a pretty common issue. Quick fix is to angle the nozzle either upside down or sideways or lift it higher. Sometimes, it'll start pumping regularly after a few seconds of doing either one of those options.
I dont think anyone here has a found a perm solution yet.

I see. Yeah, I’ve been having to re-angle it every which way, but find that pulling the gas trigger with the right amount of force can sustain a proper refuel..

Is this issue only common with IS350s? I haven't experienced this on my 250.

I find that old gas stations with old nozzles tend to shutoff the pump, and I have to hold it the entire duration.
I've tried a few gas stations with newer nozzles and the pump never shuts off on me.

i think i read somewhere that the issue was with very specific gas stations.
anyhow, i'm in canada and i only fillup at chevron. it might've been only once that i've had the pump stop early on me.

i find slightly pulling out the gas nozzle works. Basically instead of pushing the nozzle in all the way till it stops you stop about an inch or 1.5” before. Works for me.

I wouldn't hold the fuel nozzle loosely back from the tank. If this not sealed properly while refueling it may overflow. Be careful.
My guess is the gas stations and some recent changes in design on some newer cars are to blame.
Here's what little I know, may be common knowledge.
The fuel nozzle itself has a safety valve on it. As you fill the tank, air/vapors naturally are forced to escape. There's an EVAP system in place partly for this reason. With some cars, this system may be compromised and causes this problem for the pump to shut off prematurely. (Not our concern).
As the pressure builds strong enough, or wet fuel splashes back onto the nozzle, the safety valve causes the fuel to stop flowing.
My guess is the stations are not keeping these safety valves well enough maintained. Also some stations do pump fuel more quickly than others, seems like this could be the difference.
Could also be the tank design has a hard time filling up too quickly. Doesn't release pressure quick enough, thus sets off the safety valve on the fuel nozzle...as it should only do with the tank is full.
My Nissan does this. It will pop closed so bad it's causes it to pop out off the car while spilling gas ...3 times, once got my pants too. Not cool. Only car ever I've seen this (My IS has come close I think).
Ford has the issue, Nissans, and other Toyotas I've confirmed too. I only remember reading about it back with they were all 2014-15 models. Coincidence? Edit: there are some 16+ models too.

Forgot I even had this issue, it’s been that long. Since the time of my original post, i haven’t had an issue with refueling. I don’t know what changed but whatever the problem was, it worked itself out, for me at least.

Hmmm this happened to me the other day for the first time, but I think it was the pump.
