Thinking about upgrading to LS460. To be or not to be.
I have been thinking about upgrading LS430 to LS460. I can't keep both LS430 and LS460 though. I am wondering what my LS430 will fetch. Internet prices for other LS430 are all over the place.
My car is a 2004 Custom Luxury with Silver/Black with 112K miles.
I am pretty OCD about maintenance (other than the timing belt). It still runs great.
What do you say?

I was going to guess 4 figures....maybe $8k. The mileage is low, no issue there. Just the overall desirability and market. If timing belt needed, deduct something for that....

As far as the ride goes, I really liked 460 test drive. My 430 is quiet with the double pane windows but 460 is even quieter and smoother. Is it the reliability where I will be disappointed? I am looking at 2011 & 2012 models.

I think my 400 is the most proven LS to date but I would not go back to daily driving it over the 460. My 430 felt a little more tomb like but the 460 is a better car IMO. I'm actually glad I bought the 460 rather than another 430 UL. Now I'm not as confident about the long term reliability because it has way more electronics but that's a chance I'm willing to take.

When I was passively searching for an LS430, I would have paid up to $12,000 for one like yours. I too thoroughly enjoyed test driving the 460.
As far as the reliability goes, I think it's still very reliable. The salesman assisting me drove an '07 460 that he says is the best car he's ever had. He bought it with 50,000 miles 2 years ago when he got fed up with owning S-Class', 7 series', and XJ's. Now, his 460 has over 200,000 miles. He's only had to do maintenance and wear & tear (oil changes, brakes, and tires). Nothing else. He let me look around his car and all the gadgets still worked. As a whole, his car still looked brand new.

I've owned 2 LS430 and my current LS460 is a much better overall car that I enjoy MUCH more. No timing belt to worry about. The rwd 380hp V8 pulls like a beast on the highway. The control arm "problem" is overblown. I changed all 4 upper arms for $160 myself. You could spend less on from the plentiful other vendors. The small upper radiator filler tube is know for breaking off due to age. Most of them are damaged from leaning on it to change the belt or tune up etc. I changed my radiator for $150 Denso brand again there are cheaper alternatives. I'd stay away from Air suspension. Regular KYB struts which is factory goes for $100 a piece. The LS460 is easy to work on for Diyers and any basic mechanic can work on them. I will admit certain interior materials like the dash and door panels are a step down in quality. They are soft but not durable and can fail in high temps. I personally don't have that problem, a few members have and had Lexus replace it as a good will repair. 2010-2012 is a good year to get with the refresh. Make sure it has the 19inch touring wheels which really bring out the looks like the 18s did for the LS430. The ride with 19 is still soft for rwd and has better handling.

My 2010 460L was garbage. Tons of issues. Poor build quality. Looked good and had some cool gadgets, but that's about it. Ask your local Lexus dealer techs. Every one I have asked says the LS430 is a far better car. The people that work on them aren't very impressed with the 460, and I've asked at multiple dealerships.

One of the biggest issues for me was the annoying direct injection ticking. The volume seems to differ from car to car. I knew about it from here and I checked closely when I was test driving, and I couldn't hear it. But a few months in, I started to hear it more. Many here just say that the radio drowns it out, but I listen to a lot of sports talk radio. It could clearly be heard a idle up to about 25 or 30 mph. Drove me crazy. Sounded like a 80s Mercedes diesel or spark knock. Completely unacceptable for a big luxury car.
But that was minor compared to the rest of the problems. Thankfully, everything for me was covered under CPO. Maybe I got a lemon, but it was enough to make me trade back to the 430. And I have never regretted it for one second. Extremely glad I did.

Sorry I think you got a lemon. My LS460 engine is very quiet. It makes my passengers sleepy Now the GS350 I had did make the ticking sound but the fuel pump direct injector can be muffled with the insulation cover shell from an LS460. There was the wind noise problem but it can be fixed by the upgraded door trim triangle fins from a 2013 and silicone adhesive..
Believe it or not I think the LS interior started to drop slightly in the 2004-2006 models. I was going to trade my 2001 LS430 for a 2004 and for some reason the 2001 leather felt much better and the interior was more insulated with less rattles. I liked the 2004+ head and tail light updates but backed out. It was only going to cost me $4000 to trade up.
I will admit the LS430 is a legendary car. It is just way too dated to own now.
