Lexus 3.5L longevity
Hello all,
I am in the market for a lexus is350 and had a few questions pertaining to longevity & reliability.
Vehicles I am currently looking at :
1) 2008-2011 is350 (preferablly an AWD 2011)
2) 2009 + gs350 AWD
3) 2011 Infiniti G37x
In reference to the is350, can the car realistically go to 200k miles ? I am curious if the oil consumption issue is prevalent in older model 350's, and if piston ring design was changed in later model years ?
Also, other than the water pump, alternator and looking for general maintenance records, what else should one look for ?
I appreciate the replies.

They will easily go to 200k + if properly maintained.

Ok, and in reference to oil consumption, are there specific model years that are better than others ? It seems from some research on here, 2006-2007 cars were experiencing more consumption ?

My 07 has 51k and is in tip top shape. So not all older models are bad. Don’t have a single door ding on the car. It’s all how the car is cared for. But if you can find similar cars with miles that are close and same condition, definitely buy the newer model. Even if it’s a little more.

I have an 07, bought it used about 3 years ago. Has 98k on it. It's been an absolute pleasure to drive this entire time. Literally nothing wrong. All I did was TPMS which was at the end of its 10 year life. Basic maintenance like tires and oil changes, but the car has been great. Everything still feels new, drives firm. I don't forsee any problems at all.
As for oil consumption, it's very variable for me.. In the last 3 oil changes, I had
1 quart burn over the course of 5k miles
No quarts burn over the course of 10k miles
1 quart burn over the course of 7500 miles
I do 10k mile oil changes usually. It's not been a problem and it's not consistent. Should clean my PCV...

Hmmmmm. Didn’t know they had a ten year life. I’ll switch them out when my Works come in.

2006 IS350 Original owner here and I'm now at 228,000 miles. Car has been awesome! I don't think I'm burning oil, but do have some minor oil leaks. I maybe have to add 1/2 to a quart every 5,000 miles. After the 1st 2 dealer oil changes I switched to Full synthetic since it had 15,000 miles.

I'm also an original owner with an 07 IS350 and 11 years of ownership. Besides having to replace the alternator and water pump, the 2GR-FSE has been rock solid and has been taking lots of abuse from me at the track without issue (even with the rev limit increased to 7,200 RPMs).

Thanks for all the responses guys. This is great to hear.
"whatyagot", wow, that is amazing. Has anything major been repaired or replaced besides maintenance ? If you don't mind me asking, what grade of oil are you using ?
