Default Has anyone used BG fuel injector cleaner in your high mileage LS?

I was thinking about using BG fuel injector cleaner in my 2004 LS430 w 145k miles on it. The car runs perfect....maybe a little stumble during warm up but other then that smooth as glass. When I read the reviews of the BG product many say its the best thing since sliced bread and that their fuel economy has improved. So my main reasons for using the product would be to improve fuel economy....and maybe just as preventative maintenance.

Your thoughts???

I ran BG through my LS last year. It was runing fine before the BG, ran a bit rough with the BG in the tank and afterwards ran well. Gas milage did not change at all. I wont bother putting any more additive in my motor.

For fuel treatments,I do use them in both of my cars. I prefer the one from Redline. I do a bottle every 3 months or so.

Most additives are over hyped snake oil. If you do run a fuel system cleaner make sure it has a chemical specifically listed in the ingredients called PEA (like Techron, Redline, BG44k, Royal Purple maxclean, Lucas Injector cleaner). Most deposits in the engine are carbon-based carboxl compounds. PEA (poletheramine) is relatively effective at removing carbon deposits.

My LS430 was lower mileage and elderly-owned, so I ran it low on gas, used the Redline treatment with Premium gas, and then have been running it hard when I take it out. Poor thing was in desperate need to stretch her legs and get up and GO! Oh, and GO she does... love how it quickly gets up to speed without any fuss.

Never ran anything like this in my LS's or cleaned throttle body. Never seemed to lag like a fuel problem, just me.

Jabberwock or others do you know if they use PEA in gas at the pumps. Come to think of it I have noticed a little hesitation ever so slight I may be mistaken. I will try a bottle thanks!

The Chevron brand of gas adds techron (which contains some PEA) to their gas it may be added at the distributor or when the gas is delivered to the local station. My understanding is that the amount of techron added is a very small amount per gallon that may not have any significant effect.

Most of the major brands including all the brands that have Tier 1 designation add an "additive/enhancement/fuel system cleaner" package to the gas they sell.

The dirty little secret the gas company's expensive TV commercials and marketing campaigns don't want you to know is that all gas stations in a regional area basically buy the exact identical from a local area wholesale distributor. The only difference between brands is the additive package added to the gas that they buy at the distributor.

Some gas brands and independents add nothing to the gas they buy to save money, add to profits, and/or to sell gas at lowest possible cost. Some other brands (including all the Tier 1 brands) buy the additive package that theoretically makes their gas burner cleaner and better.

So you can save a few cents buy buying lowest price gas but in some cases you will eventually pay for it with fuel system issues and carbon deposits. Having said that there are low price gas brands that are also Tier 1 and provide gas with a good additive package at low price like Costco.

I have used BG44K a couple of times in my 2006 LS430 and my 2006 GS430 and both cars have run great afterwards. It is probably the best fuel system cleaner available but Redlines is also a pretty good one... It will not hurt anything so give it a try. Just pour it in at the gas station and fuel up your car. Drive till the tank is less then 1/8th full or even less if you can... This is what I have done with all my cars and I have never had any fuel related issues.

^^Yep. It's top shelf stuff. Used it in all my cars.

The Amsoil PI cleaner works very well too!

Thanks for all of the replies....I was hesitant to use it in my car.....in the meantime I talked my cousin into using it in her car I think it got in her head as she reported her car was running smoother almost immediately. My LS430 gets 22mpg at very best...I have heard of others getting up to 26mpg which I dont understand.......was thinking maybe BG44k could give me a little boost.
