Default Massive Brake Squeal "from cold start"

Anyone else's GS do this? I have a 2015 AWD F-Sport and it does it nearly every time I move the car after a cold start, particularly when I leave work. It does it when I pull out of my garage at home too, but it doesn't seem to be nearly as loud.

I noticed that, when I start the car up, if it has been sitting a few hours, first few (light) applications of brakes will result in some loud squealing, but after getting out of my parking lot and hitting the first intersection or so from work, it pretty much goes away.

I'm guessing this is some kind of glaze/crud that builds up on the rotors after driving, and the pads squeal when they rub it off?

It's kinda hilarious at how loud it gets before whatever it is "burns off" Then again I tend to be more amused than pissed off by such things.

Pads have plenty of material (car has 16500 miles) dealer checked car out today with oil change, I forgot to mention the squeal. Of course when I left the dealer the brakes did not squeal at all, LOL. Maybe the crud hadnt cooled down far enough?

Welcome to the club.
Every morning I have this when I leave the garage and in the evening leaving work.
Common problem for these cars.
Embarrassing is my emotion.
Search the forums...been brought up many times.

New none lexus pads are the solution, I use carbotech pads. When they heat up the noise is less but with the big cooling vents they are mostly cold

15 RWD F Sport and it started for me at 15k miles. Now at 24k miles, the squealing is much worse. Will do my homework searching past threads to figure out the best combination of pads/rotors to rid myself of this embarrassment.

I have 15 AWD F-Sport 32K no squeal at all. This only happens if I washed my car and left brakes wet overnight, then next morning it squeaks once you start moving and nothing after that.

Are you on stock pads and have they ever been changed? The stock pads require OEM shims to reduce squeal.

I just brought my 2016 GS350 F Sport with 24k Miles in for this. My front brakes we're changed 3 months ago for a fsport rotor defect and now I have this problem. I hope they get it fixed today

I presume I have stock pads because i got this as a CPO with 11500 miles on it. Brakes still work awesome just the initial hilarity is there. I dont see how the shims coukd reduce it... after the first 5 secs if brake application, its gone.

My Toyota corolla does this exact thing. Super squeaky and clunky until I get to the stop sign at the end of my street, then all good.

I haven't noticed in my lexus yet tho, I just bought it a month ago and the dealer resurfaced rotors and replaced pads right before I took delivery as part of 30k CPO service.

Most brake squeal is caused by vibration or rubbing between the pads and rotors. The shims are there to help mitigate that by making it a tighter fit. If you click the link I provided, the part is actually called "anti-squeal" shims. The pads on this car don't last all that long, as a CPO, the dealer may have chosen to replace them prematurely.

Strange update.... last night when I left work there was barely any squeal. Then I drove another 20 miles up the north shore, made a stop for an hour, drove another 5 miles up the road, had dinner, then drove about 40 miles or so home. No squeal after any of the stops. This morning I pulled the car out of the garage and absolutely ZERO squeal. Maybe this is somehow temperature related thing....

So the dealer called Lexus and they recommended new pads and skim kit. So far I drove it all weekend and no more noise. Lets see how long this lasts.

So today I bring my car in for my 20K service or whatever its called and I mention the Brake Squeal... and suggest that there are shims or a TSB for it.

ETA: as a followup, since its gotten colder its gotten worser... every time I start the car and drive somewhere guaranteed squeal for the first few stops.

My SA comes back awhile later and says that the TSB is only for RWD cars, not AWD cars, which mine is. He said a resurfacing could help but it is expensive, I opted not to do anything because the brakes are otherwise in
great shape and stop well.

If I want to kill off the squeal, should I just purchase the shims on my own and have a mechanic install them? the impression I'm getting is that Lexus thinks that this problem is a myth on AWD cars. Either that or there still is a
TSB but the SA couldn't find it.

Also worth mentioning- SA told me I have plenty of life left on the pads, so it's not the pads...
