Hey guys,we bought our GX470 in 2009 with 52,000 miles on it.I am very close to putting a second set of 4 new tires on it. The TPMS sensors are the original sensors,but,I have a feeling that the tire shop will recommend replacing some,if not all of them as a couple of the stems do not look so great.If I decide to replace them,where is the best place to buy them for a decent price?

On the other hand,I was thinking about removing them completely as I always check tire pressures on all our vehicles.I am ok with the light on the dash staying on. Outside of the light staying on,are there any another things to worry about? Is it as simple as removing the sensors and replacing them with regular valve stems?

i am sure the dealer will have aftermarket replacements if needed....if you take them off you just have to look at dash light i assume...

Having just gone through 4 separate trips to the tire shop to replace sensors (one left!) - get it done with the tire change. Worth it and wish I'd done it 2 years ago.
Missing sensors don't just turn on the light - it blinks it to indicate a system problem. Really annoying.

Where are you guys getting the sensors and what are you paying?

Just had one done at the local chain tire shop - $140. About $60 for the part, $70 for labor, plus tax.
But if you get it done when buying tires, the labor is free (they have to mount & balance the rubber anyway)

Make sure the shop knows how to turn the auto-height air suspension off.

At the risk of sounding like a A$$, did you do all 5 tires? and did you check the spare? just checking.

I ask because when I test drove mine, The dealership had put 4 new tires on, all was good but the tire pressure light was still on, they tried everything, even replacing air with nitrogen? I know that most of the harley shops do that, but is it worth the expense for a car? I'm not even sure it's worth the expense for a harley. anyway, i asked,"does the spare have a tpms? they dropped it and checked sure enough the spare was a little low. they topped it off, and the light went off.

What if I want to do without the sendors all together? Can I just have the shop replace the sensors with regular tire valves?

yes, there is nothing special about the wheel...any valve will fit.

Thanks Alan,I may go that route. Will stop by the dhop and run it by the owner.Hopefully he does not try to feed me any bs story that I must use the sensors.

I got aftermarket rims for my gx470 and ditched the tpms sensors. The only thing that does is make the indicator light stay on. It doesn't blink, just stays on. Its been over 6 months now without any issues. They money you spend on those needless sensors you can spend on something else.

Thanks deeken,you just pushed me closer to that option.I am always checking tire pressure,so,not worried about not having sensors.

When they put it on the lift and the wheels droop, the auto-height system will go to work trying to fix "the problem". This can result in expensive damage unless you turn the system off via the button on the console.

only if the ignition/engine is on. i lift the car up on a jack and jack stands all the time in the garage...no issue, sensors and compressor only works with power
