How much do 19 inch wheels effect gs430 performance ?

Default How much do 19 inch wheels effect gs430 performance ?

After months of searching i finally found a one owner properly maintained GS430. I chose the gs430 over the gs300 due to the stock power.

Now my delemma is whether to go with 18 or 19 inch wheels. I have gone through a bunch of the wheel threads on the forum. I understand that most would agree that 19 inch wheels fits the GS body best cosmetically. I have not been able to find out what kind of performance lose one can expect from a gs430 with 19 inch wheels.

So, For those that have gone from stock to 19 inch wheels, what kind of performance loss can one expect on a stock gs430 ? Performance meaning, acceleration, shifting gears, breaking,ect.

Also, if anyone has 18 inch wheels have you lost any performance with your gs430 ?

For size reference i plan to go with 3 piece Volk SV wheel, 8.5 inch width up front and 9.5 inch width in the back.

Well anytime you go bigger rims youre gunna add a little weight but nothing I think you can measure in performance.
The stock brakes are fine for daily driving, Supra brakes will be an upgrade either way if you drive aggressive.
I think on stock suspension 19's it would be fine, it'd be a little rougher with mods.
I'm lowered 1" with sways and some ISF end links with OEM IS350 18's. I just have to watch curbs and go up inclines or driveways slowly not at an angle.
I really can't tell much of a difference honestly but I have stuff like solid steering rack bushings so I like to feel the road. I might be biased.
Although, I have driven cars with OEM 20" wheels and didn't notice much difference there either.

Do you have stock 16s or 17s? To sum it up I'd say you'd be fine with 18s on stock or modded suspension. 19's will probably be pushing it but I think 19s by far look the best on our cars as 20s look too big IMO

@gs400v8 thanks for your reply. Right now I have stock 16 inch wheels. I have Megan EZ coilovers, but have not installed the coilovers yet. Once my brakes need replacement I have been thinking, I may go with the supra brakes.

If you don't get ****ty tires, you won't lose performance. Smaller sidewalls are stiffer sidewalls, which improves response. Opportunities for wider sizes and high performance tires. You can have a better handling car on 17, 18, or 19 depending on your wheel and tire selection. Even so, it's not like these cars are track tools, this stuff barely matters. You will lose comfort though, when you have stiffer sidewalls.
I chose 18" wheels because I wanted a less flashy look. I have better handling because I have a wider track and better tires now, and can take better advantage of my stiffer springs and sway bars.

anything above the factory installed 17 inch your gonna get minor shakes and disconfort above 50mph.

The performance difference with 19 inch wheels will not be noticeable with 2XXrwhp.

Size of wheels/tires is not what causes shakes. Shaking is the result of any one, or combination of, bad balancing, bad wheels, bad tires, bad suspension components, or bad alignment..
Larger wheels/lower profile tires will however, affect comfort.

im going to share my personal experience in hopes it helps. im running a supercharged gs430 that puts about 380 to the wheels. for the last year i was running michelin pilot sport 285/35/19 in the rear. the wheels were MRR 19x9.5 wheels. I used to be able to literally break the tires loose at 40 mph on the right asphalt. But to me that wasn't enough. So I decided to downsize in hopes to run stock gs350 five spoke chrome wheels with little bitty 245/45/18 bfgoodrich sport comp 2 tires. I thought that by running stock size wheels and tires, I could just get even crazier with the drifting and reckless driving. So I sold my 19 inch wheels and tires and bought some gs350 chrome five spoke with bf tires. than the first test drive was obvious that I ****ed up. My days of getting sideways around every turn and breaking the tires loose whenever I wanted were over. These BFGoodrich tires hook on the straight away and wont let me get sideways in a turn if I wanted to. I've done a ton of research into this issue and it seems that wheel weight, tire compound, wheel weight, and wheel diameter all come into play. I can tell you for a fact that my original 17x8 chrome five spoke wheels with tires only weighed 44lbs. and my newer five spoke 18s weigh more like 58 lbs. Unsprung weight. I've lost my point.
