Question 2012 CT200H battery drain

Recently purchased failed to allow access or power start. Reading manual eventually checked 12v battery voltage and found it completely drained. Only been doing short trips, is there any likely cause for the battery drain. Guilty of powering off before selecting park. Still getting used to first hybrid, will this flatten battery?

Your battery might just be old and unable to hold a charge. Turning the car off without selecting Park first is not a problem. The car selects Park automatically when you do this.

You should check the car after turning it off to make sure you didn't leave any lights on.

Thanks for the input Raidin, got the battery out of the car and on charge. Will monitor the voltage once back in use. If it's not holding charge I will replace it. No lights left on though.

I had a 2012 Prius C, bought it new, and its battery died a few months ago. My 2014 Mustang's battery died recently as well. If you have a 2012 then it may very well be that.

Hope your battery test goes well.

Late to chime in here but, yes, my 2012 had a 5 year old battery and is started having the issues you had. Once I replaced it, all was well.

Thumbs up Problem resolved

Thanks to all for the input, I bit the bullet and ordered a new battery through my local Toyota dealership. They checked and confirmed the Prius shares the same spec battery as my Lexus. New battery fitted and all is well. 3 year warranty so peace of mind

How much did the battery set you back at the dealer?
Also, who has NOT replaced a battery with 5-6 years on it? (2011, 2012 only...)

I ask because our 2012 just ran down and I jumped it. It appears to be back in good shape after 5 hours, but tomorrow will tell the tale...

thanks!

Ours is a 2012 with just under 50K on the odometer and the batter drained, recharged, and then wouldn't hold the charge... Went with the Optima Yellow top so we'll see how long it lasts...

I have 2011 with 87000 miles. My toddler "drove" the car a few weeks ago and must have left the lights on. I jumped it and it still seemed weak, ordered a replacement from Advance Auto with 20% off , I believe it came to $156. I went to Advance to pick it up and the employee couldn't get the tester in to test it so I decided to return it and take the risk. Working fine now!

I called the dealer first they wanted $300

Default battery drain

I called my nearby local Toyota dealer, since Prius is the sister vehicle. (BTW, oil changes are much cheaper here than at Lexus) and they quoted me $115.00 for the battery and $35.00 labor for install. I decided to do it myself on a Sunday, since they were closed. It was very easy to do. I unfortunately overpaid at PepBoys but that is not an issue for me thankfully. I paid $200 appx for an Optima Yellow top and I hope I will not have to revisit this inconvenience for quite some time. Also, peace of mind since it is the wife's daily driver.

WOW! That's cheap! Sure they had the right car? I have never seen a dealer beat an aftermarket price

that's the route i plan to go too in the next couple of weeks. my '12 is running fine, but seems to not be able to go more than a mile before the battery discharges and the ICE kicks in
