Garage Door opener
I am trying to program my new 2017 ES300H Lexus to open my garage door. I have the kind of opener with a rolling code. I have done exactly what the manual says to do, pressing the learn button and tapping on the button on the mirror and it doesn't work. I do not have a remote for the garage door opener. Do I have to buy one, programs it and then use it to program the Lexus?

I think you need the remote but try this first. Press and hold the two outside buttons on the Homelink® system until the LED starts to blink, release buttons. While the LED on the garage door opener is blinking press the learn button on the ceiling opener and within 30 seconds, return to the vehicle and press the pre-programmed Homelink® button 4 times.

Pretty sure you need a working remote. You should be able to pick one up, cheap.

Yeah - you are going to need a remote to make this work. What make and year is your opener? For a while some of the rolling code openers were a real pain to get to work with homelink but with some like the new Liftmaster it is real easy again, less than a minute and not even having to press the learn button or even leave the car - just be all in or all out of the garage..

I just followed the procedure from the manual and it worked fine. Sorry I don't have the page number handy. I did NOT need a remote. As I recall, I pressed the learn button on our opener, then immediately went to the car and pressed the Homelink button on the mirror. For reference, our opener is an Overhead Door brand opener and I believe it is the Phantom model.
EDIT: I should have pointed out that our opener also has a rolling code. Still, I never needed a remote although mcomer is certainly correct about the keypad if you have one. I do recall the first time I did this on our RX it didn't go quite like the manual suggested but a little persistence finally paid off.

If you have an outside mounted Keypad opener, it is a transmitter. Unscrew it from the
door frame and hold it by the HomeLink buttons in the car. Enter your code and press the
button while also holding the HL button. Be sure you and the car are clear of the door, it is
going to move! Once the HL acknowledges the signal proceed to the learn button process
that you seem to already understand. Reattach the keypad to the door frame...have a beer...
