I always planned on 10 years or more. I had my MDX for 10 years and just got tired of it and worried about it becoming an expense with 220,000 miles on it. I will probably do the same with the GX. I buy used and I don't finance, nothing is currently available that I would consider buying 2-3 years from now.

My had my last SUV for 19 years, would have kept it longer if it wasn't for that back ice patch came out of no where
I don't plan to sell the GX any time soon so it would be 10 years or more or until I could no longer able to fix it.

I'll probably keep mine until it isn't worth keeping. I thought about new but decided to go used this go around. Easier to take off-road I guess since I do have a couple really low scratches you can see if sitting on ground. That anxiety was never there about first scratch.

I can't really think of another BOF vehicle that would satisfy my needs right now other than a LC or LX. Even those might be a little too big for my needs but I could make them work. GM/Ford full size options too big for me and not really that capable anyway without a lot a work and then definitely not in the garage. Not that I would seriously consider but nothing European seemed to satisfy the requirements other than a G-Class and not gonna touch that one for cheap.

My cabin is snowbound in winter and really wanted something with even minimal underbody cladding and a stout AWD system. I appreciate that a significant piece of the AWD system is mechanical other than the electronic pieces for 4L. The old all-mechanical Borg Warner unit in my old Explorer V8 never let me down. I can go on but you get the point.... I had concerns my options for the future are beginning to run out.

From now? I put two years. Hopefully that'll be when the student loans are paid off. However I could see driving it indefinitely until some huge repair bills come up.

New stuff coming out could lure me away like the 2018 Wrangler, ~2019 Defender or the ~2020 Bronco. Given thought to a Ford Raptor or other F150 but don't know if I want something that big. Otherwise it'll be another GX or maybe a 4runner if they ever come out with a new one.

It's only the second new car we have ever owned. But going forward, we plan to get rid of anything that I might have to work on. So when the warrantee starts to get close, its gone, until then, when something goes wrong, its somebody else's problem. Guess I'm getting old.

I hear ya... I'll probably be there someday myself. My father used to do everything on cars. I think these days he just changes the oil on one of his trucks since really easy on that vehicle.... and has everything else done by others.
