Default Not comprehending the intake tube thing...

Ok, I think Im missing something about the whole aftermarket intake tube thing; whats this thing doing for you if its the same exact thing your car already has on it from the factory? And even if it were bigger than the factory diameter your throttle body diameter would still negate it anyhow lol. The only way a bigger diameter tube would help you is if the factory intake was restrictive, which it's not so... I'm confused. Anyone have any other information on this that I may be missing?

Here is a photo of the stock intake tube and an aftermarket one. (Not my photos)

You can see the aftermarket tube is much smoother internally and has less to interfere with the air being sucked in. It also removes the OEM intake resonator.
Will an aftermarket intake tube give you a big jump in power? No, but every little bit helps and at the very least changes the sound.

I looked into it too and it seems to be purely sound.. that little difference in power seems negligible

On my car the intake tube is smooth; those ripples you see don't transfer to the inside, they're just on the outside. Odd. Plus, who would want a louder car? That's going in reverse lol. Though, I'm not even sure a smooth inside surface beneficial. 99.99% of all car's intake tubes are bumpy. I'm guessing this helps air turbulence (which by the way does not slow down velocity) and a better mixture of the air & fuel inside. The same reason we don't polish after we port heads, it actually slows down velocity.
And true, every little bit "helps" IF you're actually doing a lot of mods to the car over time to aggregate them, but if this is your ONLY mod then no, every little bit doesn't help, because 2hp is pretty much pointless and we all know it. Just trying to see if there's anything I'm missing still. Thanks!

There is no fuel anywhere in the intake path.
That's what the injectors are for.
Lol, that's good lol.

@buddiiee ,A lot of members here want a louder car. Lol. The noise created by the aftermarket intake isn't over powering in my opinion. I personally love the sound of my intake. quiet under normal acceleration but aggressive under hard acceleration. I've never assumed much of a HP increase though. I find there is a fine line of good sound and obnoxiously loud but that is better left up to the car's owner.

He has it right, smooth tube doesn't necessarily mean better.

I had a cold air intake on my Tacoma for a few years and it may have added 5 horsepower, but the only thing I noticed was the louder intake noise under heavy throttle. The airbox is a bigger restriction than the tube is.

Absolutely nothing. If anything, just some sound.

Mightycarmods have done all the intake test possible and the best gain they got was ~5hp and that was when they put the intake 5 feet away from the car. the rest of the experiment was zero gains.

I found this video funny. The only way to see a gain in a dyno is you must let the ECU relearn first.

Not to go completely off topic - but a tube with tiny bend and two couplers for $250+++ .... What a rip-OFF!!!

You can buy new engine (cast and machined components) for $2,500... Nothing like being bent over. Dare we mention USSR? Cost to make these items??

/end rant
