Default SC 400 buy or pass

I've found a a 95 sc400. The person who owns it has thrown a lot of parts at the car trying to get it to start. The car turns but will not crank. Could the ECU be bad?? Bad fuel pump? Electrical?? The body needs a little work on the rear quarter panel and a few dings. I can pretty much get the car pretty cheap but was wondering what to do to get it running again. The timing belt has been changed. The wires and plugs changed. I noticed when I tried to start it I didn't hear the fuel pump humming sound is there a relay for it?

Sometimes on 1uzs crank position sensor failure happens too, it could be as simple as that, ask him if he replaced it?

The first question, I would ask is when was the car running last? Example: before timing belt replacement-> the belt may be on for TDC of exhaust stroke of cylinder #1.

Since 95 has the distributor, just hook up the timing light to see if the timing is right.

Once timing is good, you can shoot some starting fluid.

it's somewhere on lowe front of the engine by the crank. You have to take the front plastic covers off you'll see it, there are a 2 wires coming out of it.

Strictly a guess here, but I assume he means spins over but does not start. I think he already knows the most likely causes because he listed them, fuel pump ecu or ecu. I am going with fuel pump ecu.

Does the check engine light come on with the key on? Dont try to start it, just turn the key and see if it comes on. If not, go under the hood and unplug the EFI relay in the fuse box. If the check engine line now comes on, try to start it. If it stays off, odds are your ECM is toast. Tanin Auto can repair them.

sooooo have they tried the knock sensor? I know that when my 1996 ls400 (same engine) had the knock sensor accidentally unplugged... it absolutely would not start.
