drive my RX or rent a car for 1400 mile trip
Which makes more financial sense? I have a 1400 mile, 2 day trip coming up. Should I rent a nice car for about $100 total or drive my car? obviously the considerations are wear and tear on my nice RX vs. not having the enjoyment of driving my own vehicle. What do you think is the per mile cost of our RX?

Rent if you have unlimited mileage. The IRS allows $.54 a mile for depreciation and gas. That is $756 for your trip with renting a car at $100. No brainer here.

I understand your calculations.
But are we comparing apples to apples?
What kind of car are you going to be renting for the "quoted rate of $100" for the two days? What about extra charges like taxes and etc. What about"insurance"? Are you going to decline the rental car insurance at the counter? If you do, what insurance will you have to cover the rental car in case of whatever happens? Most credit card insurance act as SECONDARY insurance (SOME AMEX WILL DO PRIMARY AS I HAD A CLAIM SEVERAL YEARS AGO AND AMEX COVERED A MINOR BUMPER DAMAGE WHILE PARKED 100% with NO DEDUCTIBLE FOR ME). Also some owner car insurance will not cover rental if used for "business" (some will not cover at all no matter what). Also even if covered, you are still subject to whatever your deductible you are responsible. I've always declined any additional insurance the rental car company is trying to sell me bc I know between my own car insurance and AMEX card I good to go.
Lastly if there is a claim on the rental car AND IF it took the rental car company something like two weeks or however long it took to fix it (sometimes due to parts availability it may take a month or longer),. YOU ARE POTENTIALLY ON THE HOOK FOR THE LOST RENTAL MONEY THE RENTAL COMPANY SUSTAINED. Not sure if your own insurance company will cover this?
So in summary, if I can get a "comparable vehicles to the RX" for $100 TOTAL COST (which is unlikely), AND ALL INSURANCE info understood and worked out........THEN I would rent the car. Otherwise, I would just drive my own and take a business mileage (IF CAN DO IT).

My feeling is that you would rather take a rental than your RX, and based on the rental deal you're getting why not, enjoy the XT5.. FWIW, my father just replaced my moms 2014 SRX with a new XT5 and it's vastly improved over the SRX. The SRX never gave them a problem, including CUE, but the refinement of the XT5 is on another level compared to the SRX.

Sounds like a good deal. Also you can test drive the Caddy for a couple of days and see if you like it.
For me, I would take my personal car (it's just me). Unless I'm flying into somewhere and I will need a car, then I will rent a car.

If I was going on vacation, I would take a rental.
Had an accident and our vacation was not ruined as we simply called the rental company for a replacement vehicle. Yes I had the extra insurance from the rental company.
If your personal vehicle gets disabled, your plans get ruined and you need to deal with repairs and temporary transportation.
What are the chances of that happening to you? Pretty low.
Incidentally, I always appreciated my old RX much more after returning the rental.
