Default Front Tire Blowout at 75 MPH

Driving me '14 ES on I-70 just East of Indianapolis this week. Hit a pot hole that took a major chunk of my front passenger side wall (will try to post pic). After the blowout the car tracked perfectly and I was able to pull off the road with no incident. I was amazed that the tire blew out the way it did and control was not an issue. These were the OEM tires (40k miles) and I was due for new one. Was hoping to wait until the end of Summer but just bought 4 new Michelins.

That's one of the worst blowouts I have ever seen! Glad you're ok.

I am not generally a conspiracy theorist but that blow out area appears to have been cut
and cut pretty darn clean and straight. Anybody you know mad at you...?

LOL man, kinda agree. as if someone had em all pre-cut just waiting for it to happen. but then again, who would make it seem that obvious? LOL
might be just that these tires are built and structured with those square blocks? idk but nice observation.

I didn't think that initially, but most blowouts result in jagged, ripped pieces of tire. IDK but it does look squarely cut.

Thats crazy! Definitely looks squarely cut...and to have no or very little damage to the wheel after such a thing too...

You'd need a very sharp pothole edge to get a blowout like that. Maybe the pothole edges hit both the tread and sidewall. Either that or someone seriously doesn't like you...

I hit a deep pothole at 65 mph once, the wheel buckled inwards and the tire had a big bulge on the side but there was no blowout.

That's definitely no normal blowout. Did you **** off the wife lately and did you she buy a large life insurance policy in your name?

I don't know if the blowout pic is real or not...
but, I was on the freeway in Houston yesterday at 80+ mph and had a left rear blowout. I had to cross five lanes of traffic to get to the side of the road. When I saw the tire, I couldn't believe we survived!

A couple years ago I was driving with my son and there was an SUV in the lane next to us...we were going about 40-45 MPH. Suddenly she swerved all over the place, turned 80 degrees and went into a tree, bounced, turned around and with momentum, slammed backwards into another tree 30 feet away, both on the same road. I got out and she was OK, just shook up and missing her rear axle...heh!? Anyway, the cause was her tire blew out and had the exact same square cutout as the OP. Her swerving and such seemed to be from panicking and over correcting left and right-plus it was a big SUV, not a low sedan.

i don't know how they make tires, but I would presume an OEM tire would not be re-manufactured of some sort, so I only guess this is how tires are made...with panels...which seems strange, granted.

Who made that tire? Leggo Corporation??
Seen a lot of tires destroyed, never a block like that!

I agree with the group; the tire does not look like a "natural" blowout.
