Default Nevada Open Road Challenge May 2017

Hi all:

Newbie to posting on this forum and older car guy so forgive me if I make a mistake here... I wanted to share my recent experience in Nevada, running the NORC, Nevada Open Road Challenge. The time-speed-distance rally (race ;-)) is run on a temporarily closed public highway (Nevada 318). Local sheriff, county DOT, state DOT, and state police all help keep us safe from the public who all drive like crazies as we know.

Check out my YouTube videos if you are interested.

Bill (old) and Megan (not old)

What mods were needed for it, if any?

Default Modifications to rally (race) in the NORC

OTR:
Best to look at the web page, rule book posted here. A good summary is on page 23.
https://www.sscc.us/rulebook.aspx

For me (target speed 100 mph):
Fire extinguisher accessible to driver while strapped in (I attached to the two front seat mount bolt on a home made bracket, I'll post a picture later)
Tires that meet OR exceed OEM tire speed and load rating (is350 requires Y speed-186 mph and 92/94 weight, see TireRack web site for your car) with good tread and no damage (I had mine removed, inspected, and re-mounted since I bought the car used and did not know if the tires had been run flat and damaged and to check for repair plugs-none found).
Change the oil (a 3,000 miles road trip for me)
Cotton clothing
Current Snell rated helmet
Metal value stem caps
Balaclava for my daughter's long hair
Safety inspection
Full tank of gas
Have fun

That is most of what I did.
Faster speeds, above 110 mph for example, require more safety modifications.
Bill

Sorry, I don't know much about forum rules yet, do you have a picture of your car here? I would like to see it.

You have seen mine...;-)
