why is the suspension on the SC so hard and rough ? is it the OEM spring rate ?

will changing the springs to like eibach or tanabe improve the harshness ?

I build off road racing engines and suspensions and the shock/spring rate on our 25k miles 08 are very poor.

too much high speed compression dampening too little low speed dampening.

Rides hard on littke bumps and blows through the suspension travel on dips too easily.

talked with meister and he thought the factory spring rate was ok but the springs were too long.

as soon as I talked low and high speed rates he thought that I would like their hand made in England meisterr's coil overs.

rented a new bmw SUV and the shocks were marvelously dampened.

not stiff. Plush but firm and progressive would be nice.

what have the coilover changers here experienced?

It's a sport car...it suppose to be . The 06+ has better suspension systems.

i have an 08 with Michelin super sports and the shocks/springs are poor.

if the older ones were worse that's really bad

In the early days of the SC430 ( 2002-2004) Lexus received many complaints about the harsh ride. Some of it was probably due to the RFTs. Anyway from my year onwards 2005 they changed some suspension components to make the ride a bit more compliant - I am not sure it really helped that much. I have driven a friend's 2004 SC430 and he has driven mine. My ride is softer with a lot more body lean and I do not like taking corners hard with it. The 2004 was more planted. Heck our MDX with SH AWD corners better than my SC430. And with the top down there is a little more jiggle in the SC430. Switching out from RFTs to regular tires helped me out a lot though - everyone will tell you that.

love to. Need info that the aftermarket shocks and springs installed by owners here cure my symptoms.

firm but plush. Better bottoming resistance. Not a race car setup. The kind of shock action you do not notice even if pushed

Not sure how old your tires are...but I bought my 06 and it had Michelin PS2's non RF that were a over half worn out....but still looked like they had some life left. My tire tread depth was 4/32.
I wasn't real happy with the ride...but didn't know any better. Costco had a sale and I thought WTF and replaced the tires with Mich Pilot supersports. Ride was much improved. My take was/is old tires loose some of their ride quality....not to mention performance.
My recomendation....measure your tread depth and if anywhere close to 4/32...replace your tires before looking at suspension.

I was looking at upgrading suspension myself and had settled on MeisterR coilover....now that is on the back burner.

...now thats going to be something that each owner will have to address, because there are alot of us that different setups. I think overall new springs & coilovers might be the way to go, because you can dial in your ride, to your liking.There are many different coilovers out there, so you might ask opinions of what some think or do some research on your own & depending on your budget. I would also look into possibly changing out some of the stock components to new or upgraded ones. I myself went went Tein Sports lowering springs & Bilstein shocks & I love the ride, it rides firmer than factory, but it is giving also....if that makes sense...lol...I will admit though, on some bumps or rough roads, I do feel a little more harshness, but thats because the car is only 4 inches off the ground & it has to be firm to keep it from bottoming out. I know after I did the changes, my wife noticed a difference in the ride immediately...lol.....almost forgot, I did the Is rear sway bar upgrade also

When I got the car it rode noisy and harsh like a cheap go kart on fork lift tires. I got rid of the 10 year old run flats and installed a set of Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires at Costco. The new tires completely transformed the car's ride to super smooth and very quiet. Handling is very good and the suspension feels perfect now.
