Default Cup Holder Dilemma

I have no idea how or when one of the little cup holder gripper things got lost or broke and fell inside the console on my NX. I just noticed my cup was not fitting right on the cup holder and then I noticed one of those little things was gone. Now there is a big hole inside the cup holder and one of the cup holders is nearly unusable but the worst thing is that my OCD is going through the roof because of this. I've looked everywhere in my car to see if I found the piece but its gone. My guess is that it fell inside the console.
Called Lexus parts and they sell the cup holder for around 90 bucks but does anyone know if this is an easy job where the old cup holder and trim are simply removed with a pry tool or if the entire center console has to come out for this?
I've attached a picture with an arrow pointing to the insert I am referring to.
Any input or suggestions would are welcomed!

Here is a video of the entire break down of the dash and console. If you skip to 3:30 you see the removal of the console and access to the cup holders. Its quite a lot of work BEFORE you can access the console however, but it looks like all the pieces are easy to remove.

oh god, if I took all that apart and tried to put things back, I guarantee you I'd end up with all sorts of parts leftover and wondering where those should go...

have you tried to bring it in to Lexus as a warranty issue? I don't see how you could abuse that part to make it fall off.

Someone in the RX forum got their front camera replaced thru warranty due to a rock chip in the lens - obviously it depends on the dealership. And for that rock chip, I don't think anyone expected that to get repaired under warranty. You have a stronger case.

I've thought about bringing it up as a warranty issue but with my luck who knows... I guess I have nothing to loose. I was thinking about ordering some sort of cell phone holder or something (as long as it's black) to put in there in the meantime so I don't see the gaping hole from the missing piece.

Yes, I had this little nick on my cup holder too, the dealer thought it was just the bezel that could be replaced, but getting to the bezel would require the breakdown of the dash/console as in the video. They wouldn't warranty it since it was physical damage. I am not sure what made it, I usually don't leave anything in the cup holder.

It does look like a lot of work, and speaking from experience, scary as heck, but if you follow the procedure as outlined in the video, go slowly and trust the process, you will be fine.

I used the above video to take apart my wife's dash. This is the current state:

I will note that IF you have a 2018 and a larger screen it does require a little more work. The front trim part doesn't just pop out like the video shows. You have to remove a few bolts holding the screen down. Then you can't disconnect the screen because the connectors are facing up instead of down... so remove 6 more screes to remove the trim piece from the screen.

I can snap more pics when I get home. Not hard, and honestly the lexus is your typical toyota snap/clip trim pieces. It's actually fairly simple to take apart.

***I will note that IF you only want to get the center cup holders out it's super easy and the video above goes into TOO much detail for you.
1. Remove the two side leather pieces, passenger side and driver side. They simply just snap off, pull gently and they are off in 3 seconds.
2. Open the center console lid.
3. Next remove the sun glass/mirror holder. Then remove the little trim to the right of it.
4. Pull shift boot down, and unscrew shift ****.
5. Now pull up on the center console and the entire thing will lift up.
This whole process should take you less than 5 minutes.***

You can then unscrew the cup holder from the bottom which is only 6 screws. Buy a new cup holder/trim piece and then put it back together.

Don't let the above picture think it's something crazy... This is made by toyota.. pieces just snap together almost effortlessly compared to some pieces on our Mercedes. Hope that helps.
