Default How easy is it to turn back mileage?

Im in the market for a newer IS and have my eye on a 2011 with only 40k. Seems really low milage for a car that old but anything is possible i guess. I only drive my current IS on the weekends and putting on 10k a year. I guess besides Lexus running the vin for service history and a car fax there's not much else I can do?

Run the vin on car fax. The person who bought it probably didn't drive it much. Milage on a car per year is variable. My mom's 2007 Accord only has 64k miles on it and my girlfriend has the same car (year and make) and her milage is almost 60k. Just to show you the year make does not dictate the milage.

My 07 has 45k. Its not all abnormal for some cars to have low miles. Its harder and harder for people to roll back mileage now a days.

You cannot "play" with the electronic odometers on these things. That mileage is probably legit, seeing there are many members on here with similar mileage on a '06 model year.

not true, in most vehicles the cluster can be swapped out with one that has lower mileage. Some will report VIN mismatch issues on the canbus, but those would not normally be seen without a dealer tech tool, a regular ODBII tool would not pick it up.

Thats what i was wondering. Taking out the cluster is not a big deal at all. They have a youtube video on it.

A few years ago I had a Honda Del Sol and worked just about 7 miles round trip from home. Drove the car for 4 years to that job and was putting less than 2k miles per year. It's totally possible.

IDK about NJ, but in Texas, vehicle inspection is required every year for registration and the milage is logged every time. If the same applies to NJ, the milage should not go backwards. A carfax report will show all the inspections.

Why don't you just register the vehicle on Lexus Drivers and pull the report. You can also get a carfax that will show what the mileage was during any state inspections.

I drive 7 miles each way to work, about 5000k a year.

In NJ, new cars are inspected by the dealer and get a sticker that is good for five years. After that, the car must be inspected every other year.

NJ has tough odometer tampering laws. If convicted in court, the defendant must pay triple the actual damages as well as the plaintiff's attorney fees.

Turning back the mileage is a worthless idea. It is criminal.

I bought my 08 ISF with 29k in October. Car history was very detailed, and car was pristine for an 08.
