Default Navi Update to V15A8910 skip the dealer

For those technically incline and want to skip the dealer, I found the latest update to our navigation units online. The latest version is V15A8910 based on the TSB here:
http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/TSb/...dPdf?id=197088

The firmware itself can be grabbed straight from Lexus here:
https://dl.securedp.toyota.com/lexus...-AB01_0003.kwi

Quick steps:
1. Download the above file. Take a USB key and format the key as FAT32, MUST BE FAT32!!!
2. Plug the key into the car, start the car (as in leave the car running)
3. Go to General Settings then down to Software Update, finally Update (NOT Gracenote update)
4. The screen will show you your current version and give you the option to proceed with an update if one is needed, if one is not the update button will not be enabled
5. Update takes around 5 minutes or so, leave the USB key plugged in and follow all the instructions.
6. Enjoy skipping the dealer for updates

This firmware update applies to multiple vehicles including: CT, ES, IS, NX, and the RC. Just verify your firmware version is following the similar scheme as V15AXXXX

In my experience when I had the USB memory stick loaded in before I got to the update screen it started downloading before I could get to the right screen. I think it may believe it's a music file. So, I pulled it out until I got to the update screen. Worked fine after that.

Also watch the videos for exactly what to do. For example don't click on Continue after Nav screen reappears. Let it get to the Nav screen and you're set.

don't know why, but when I go thru screens to get the latest for the 2015 NX, it lists this version as the latest V15A8872

That's what I installed typocl....update as of January 26, 2016. Unless they have a more current one. 8910 is larger # than 8872 so they may have a more recent update that is not showing yet in LexusDrivers.

Exactly the site LexusDrivers site isn't point to 8910 just 8872...that is why my links above don't match LexusDrivers. I took the original LexusDrivers link to 8872 and renamed the URL to point to the KWI listed in the TSB and what do you know it downloaded 8910 as expected. I have done this install on both an RC300 and NX200 now with no issues.

So, this is NOT the map itself but just the firmware? also, the file name listed as "13LHENNA-AB01_0003", is that right?

My '15 GX was born 8/2014 so it might benefit from this update. My '17 NX was born 11/2016 so it may already have the latest firmware.

Yep its just the nav unit itself. There are really 4 different type of updates for the nav units:

1. The firmware for the nav unit itself
2. The map updates that come from Lexus via sdcard
3. The gracenote database updates (never seen one of these yet)
4. The enform app updates that happen via the enform app on your phone

I couldn't help but notice in the TSB at the end of the instructions it shows an image of the nav maps. I see what appears to be a grayed out satellite image of local streets. I don't have that or haven't I checked the correct box?

Is this something new in the pay for map updates?

Performed this update today. Very easy to do. Went from 8880 too 8910. Not sure if I will notice any improvements. I'm debating on updating the maps to V17.1 this fall, but not sure.

If you have the funds to do it, go for it. I rather just move to Google Maps when the navigation's maps get too outdated. Its just not worth it to me to pay so much just to have slight map updates annually, when I can get the latest Google maps for free.

I agree. Unfortunately a lot of places I travel Google maps doesn't work as I don't have cell phone reception

Does anyone know if this is updating to the generation 8 sw? I am purchasing an SD card and they save I have to be on Gen 8 but I can't find any information on it. I thought all RC models came with Gen 8 loaded.

Also I have also been told the navigation can be modded like jail breaking a phone. That's all I know and I'm wondering if anyone has a resource.
