The system only works when up to a certain speed when it comes to the frontal crash system.

Default 2017 lexus rx 350 frontal crash protection system.

I have been provided conflicting opinions as to having to turn off this system when going through a car wash.I would like to know how to turn it off to remove any doubt and then how to turn it back on after leaving the car wash.

In you multi-informational display go to:

settings:

PCS: pre-collision system off

since you have a 2017, I would turn off

ICS: Intelligent Clearance Sonar

which is on the same menu page

and don't forget to turn them back on.

When at a car wash, your car is usually in neutral, right? The safety stuff is only active in drive or reverse.

I am pretty sure that Lexus took car washes into account, but if turning it off make you feel better . . . Just make sure you turn it back on.

I never turned mine off during a car wash and had no problems. The only thing i turn off is the automatic wipers...

In addition to the wipers I also turn off the Intuitive Park Assist (bumper sensors) as they tend to go crazy in a carwash even in neutral.

Default parking assist does alert in N in carwash

it certainly is annoying, but yes the parking assist (if enabled) is fully alive and active when the car is in N being coaxed along inside a car wash.

In my 2016 I simply arrow over to that setting in the informational display using the steering wheel controls, and turn it off when entering the car wash. Just leave it on that screen and hit the button again to turn it back on when rolling out the other end!

All you need to turn off is the intermittent wipers. The safety system is not going to do anything and let the bumper sensors sing all they want.

New is the ability to "mute" the part assist sound, lower right corner of the screen is a speaker with an international NO circle.
Tap it and the sound goes away until the next trigger. Works well in drive up lanes with protection poles but the constant nature
of a car wash would need multiple taps.
dchar is correct, the intelligent sonar is not active in neutral.

GOOD GRIEF!

Did not know this. The LX has a dedicated button for the park assist where the RX you got to go through the menues!

Thanks and you should post this is the "Interesting Discovery" thread as I bet many have no idea.

thank you for the tip, I never noticed the mute button on screen as it appears to be kinda dark, blends in with the background. THIS is a perfect example of why I joined this forum (haven't been active on any car forums since I sold my E36 M3 years ago). The mute button works for me in the car wash, and when approaching others in drive up lanes like you say.

Default What to disable before taking to a carwash?

I have a 2017 RX350 F-sport fully loaded - what automatic features do I need to disable before I take it to an automatic carwash? Wipers?, Cruise Control?, Parking Assist?, Collision Avoidance? etc. I have heard stories of the brakes automatically locking up because the sensors think the cloth washers are a solid barrier and therefore automatically apply the brakes. Any and all feedback is welcomed - thank you!
