How many have had failed alternators?

my 08's just died. I've never had an alternator go in many, many years of owning a car.

91K here, no issues on my 2008 350. How many miles are on yours and more importantly, how much is the repair?

I noticed a trend on the CL forums that the alternators tend to give up their ghosts after the 8 year mark (my 07 IS350 alternator had to be replaced about a year ago and my 08 GX470 alternator was replaced several months ago).

Haven't had any issues yet. 2011 with 68k miles (110k kms).

Hopefully it stays that way.

The alternator in my '06 spit the bit about 2 years ago and that seems about par for the course. I just bought the part and replaced it myself.

Could the low voltage on my alternator cause my navigation not to turn on due to low output?

Yep, it's easy aside from that hidden bracket bolting it to the block. That's a little tricky to get to.
