my 04 LS430's steering wheel moves quite a bit from lower left to upper right. It has nothing to do with driving it's there while the wheel is locked. I thought maybe a screw or bushing?

Any ideas?

OK, try these...
1) Tilt the steering wheel fully up and see if the problem gets better, worse, or stays the same.
2) Tilt the steering wheel fully down and see if the problem gets better, worse, or stays the same.
3) Telescope the steering column fully back and see if the problem gets better, worse, or stays the same.
4) Telescope the steering column fully forward and see if the problem gets better, worse, or stays the same.

Your feedback will give us more information to troubleshoot.

Stays the exact same in all positions.........no impact even a little.......seems to me like it's something in the steering column....never have seen anything like it....annoying.

So to confirm - " 04 LS430's steering wheel moves quite a bit from lower left to upper right." - as pictured below...




and you've confirmed that the "play" is not due to the moving parts (Tilt and Telescope), the next thing to check are the 4 mounting bolts that attach the steering column to the dash frame.

3 weeks ago I had the same.
For me it was the tilt motor fixing. A bolt needs to be tightened with an Alan key.

Thanks all....

I finally got around to checking it out......when you're in the drivers seat looking down at the top of the exposed steering column there is a silver steel piece that breaks into a Y.....on each side there is a bolt? (need allen wrench) that attaches. On the right side where the bolt is located is moving. The bolt is tight and rock solid......anyone know what is underneath that could be moving?

Behind each of the bolt, there's a "non-resuable" stopper bolt bushing (circled in red in drawing below). Sounds like yours are worn!

The fix listed above with bushings is correct and will solve it if you are really having the same problem. The bushings are cheap enough and easy enough to change that is definitely worth doing before you change the steering column. I had this problem and changing those bushings solved it.
