Is it possible to switch from a nakamichi to a pioneer unit?
I have a 1999 GS300 with nakamichi head unit. The front right speaker goes in and out, the tape deck stopped working. And to add insult to injury, the radio isn't working either. I was thinking about replacing it with an aftermarket system.
That would require doing more than i really want. I found a head unit, and the amp behind the glove box in the salvage yard, they are holding it for me until tomorrow. I was hoping to it would be feasible.
The pioneer unit is from a 2002. Any help would be appreciated.
No this is not possible without replacing the entire harness (or doing some serious wiring) they are different depending on audio system

I just completed this project on my GS430 for my first time ever doing audio (took about a week lol) It is required to grab the AC climate control from an older GS if you have the nav unit I added a Pioneer DMH-W4660NEX head unit I ended up keeping my factory amp to run the door speakers also added a 5 channel amp in the trunk to run my new rear sub Pioneer 10in shallow custom fit into the OEM bracket and adding a metra interface adapter to keep the factory connectors and not splicing so much after all this mine sounds beautiful METRA AXXESS AXTO-TY1 / Digital Amplifier Interface FOR 2001-2015 TOYOTA https://ebay.us/m/DC9pph
Also purchase a dash kit so it sits nice and flush mine is from Metra I bought it from Best Buy
