im having trouble inserting the square rod into the receiver to lower the spare tire. it seems too large. had anybody had this trouble? if so, any solutions

 

Mine was a little tight, but went in with some careful aligning. Here is a YT video for reference - using the end length of the shaft by itself first to get it in the hole is what I did (as this video also shows):
