I have done few modifications over the years with my 2016 LX, from simple add-on CarPlay capability to finally replaced top display with Hamilton touch screen Android unit with built in CarPlay/Android Auto. Haven’t used OEM navigation for years.
Never used the factory navigation, have always used iPhone. I have a phone mount in the cup holder and place it there. Always works perfectly. Plus reroutes if an accident.
The factory Nav was hopelessly outdated on my 2013 the day it was built. I bought the Hamilton module and use Android Auto with Google maps, a great upgrade. Simple to install and worth the money. Maintains the factory OS, easy to switch to it, maintains factory cameras and I now have updated maps and navigation.

I use both…I run the updated Lexus map and CarPlay on my phone…the best of both worlds. When you lose cell service the sat link is still available on the old school nav.
I still use the original system in my 2013. It is mostly fine around town and I have a bunch of way points marked and labeled, even a few potholes to avoid, and I don’t want to give that up. For travel out of town I use my ipad and google maps.

I installed Grom V2 and I can add almost any app from the Play store. I'm getting old so retraining me is my biggest issue. Lol
2013 LX vs 2017 GMC Sierra, both mine. The LX shows the street where I live, a new road built in 2013. The GMC says that we are off road in my whole neighborhood, even with the latest available GM update.
