Angry NX300 Rodent damage cost assessment

Hey all,
I ran into an issue with my Lexus yesterday (Thursday). When I tried to start it, the vehicle displayed multiple random error messages and would not start. After opening the engine bay, I discovered that a rodent had chewed through a portion of the wiring leading into one of the computer modules. There is also some damage to the air filter housing and nearby components, although that appears to be cosmetic. The vehicle was actively being used and was not abandoned, I last drove it on Tuesday of this week.

Attached pics for reference. I am in the process of opening a claim but was curious to see if any can guesstimate the cost of replacing the damaged wiring & sound insulation board. Thanks for your help.

YIKES!!

Sorry for your circumstance

It's not just this brand as my SIL also had rodent damage to her Subaru, to the tune of $3 - $4k

They lived out in the country at the time and their cars were not garaged, so what can you do...

There's some kind of soy coating that makes them tasty to the rodents.

On yours, it looks like a lot of surface damage and not much? damage to the wiring.

I do hope it doesn't cost much to fix -- Please keep us posted on how everything was fixed/resolved and if you care to share the cost of repairs.

Per google and other forums, there are many remedies to help prevent this from happening again, I hope you find one that works for you.

On some cars, if you set the air-flow to recycle within cabin, that closes off an area to the rodents and makes it harder for them to get to. Any barriers or delays in them getting to areas of your engine compartment can only help -- Good Luck with it all !!

Thanks for replying, I saw a green wire that was completely severed and few other wire's sheathing was gnawed through. May be fixing one wire will solve all the errors I am seeing right now and able to start the car, but below is the comprehensive list of all errors that popped up lol
  1. check engine
  2. engine coolant temp high
  3. front camera unavailable
  4. parking support brake malfunction
  5. brake override malfunction
  6. drive-start control malfunction
  7. charging system malfunction.
I will def update the post once the final repairs are done.

Default Had problems with past vehicles

I live out in the country and a couple of my vehicles had rodent damage. I finally had pest control come out and put some bait stations out and I added a light that shines directly under my vehicle. Also put moth ***** on garage floor directly under where I park. Not sure which of these 3 things helped but no problems since. Rodents can total your vehicle. Some insurance policies will cover and some won’t. The main problem is that the car companies are using a soy coating on the wires and rodents love it. Hope that change that soon. Good luck to you.
