24 LC500 coupe
I notice that when driving in automatic transmission, that if I am coming to a stop sign, as an example, and kind of slow and go, that I get a noticeable drop on stopping and a jerky clunk when accelerating. Sometimes the shift display goes from 3rd to 1st and sometimes it goes from 2nd to 1st. Then the jerk on accelerating happens, whether accelerating hard or slow.
Shouldn't such an advanced 10 speed transmission be a lot smoother?
Anyone else notice this?

It's not the super smoothest transmission for slower speeds. Actually neither are double-clutches.
In town simply put it in 'comfort' or even 'eco' mode if you dare, have a steady foot and it will be much better.

like most transmissions if they are cold U might expect that....things normalize out after warming up from driving.

Yep. This is one of the very few faults of this car. I hate it but no car is perfect.

I've been monitoring this thread since inception, and have been reluctant to join, but here goes:

IMHO, this is not a fault The LC500 is a GT car with a performance automatic My Silverado also has a 10 speed auto transmission. No what you folks are describing as clunks or jerks, very smooth - but no where near the performance of the 10 speed in the LC. The LC transmission behaves much like a dual clutch IMO. I had the Lexus 8 speed in my ISF, the LC 10 Speed is much better. I'm extremely pleased with the performance of my transmission

I find that Eco mode drives the smoothest in slower or normal speeds around town.

Yes. You'll also notice that it holds second gear to very low speeds. Almost like it doesn't like first and was programmed accordingly. The rough shifts are far more pronounced when the engine is cold. C7 Corvettes, and most likely others, are known for this as well.

The BMW M vehicles (certainly high performance rated) use a ZF auto trans and those behave excellent. I blame Toyota for the poor programming of their transmissions. They just don't take the time to tune the programming of trans properly.

well known issue going back to the IS F at least. GS F and IS 500 also have awful transmission tuning. At least for the IS F the ECU has been unlocked and you can reflash the programming. Pretty much everyone who has done it says the transmission performance is much better. Toyota just refuses to properly tune their “performance” transmissions. I don’t know what goal they think they are accomplishing but it doesn’t work. At least the 10 speed on the LC is better than the 8 speed.
