Default Hitch for bike on 2024 NX350h

I have learned that it costs about $1200 for Lexus to attach a standard hitch to my 2,000-lb tow capable NX350h. An "accessory" hitch, presumably for lightweight items like bicycles, would cost about $600. I think both of these numbers are too high. Does anyone think it is advisable to have U-Haul attach a hitch? I just want to carry couple of bicycles.

Just make sure that non OEM hitches don't get in the way of the kick sensor.

Good Luck with that! My factory 2,000 lb towing and activity mount are in the way and it works 15% of the time. After two tries at Lexus being told my sensor is normal I gave up. mostly works if you kick under the "E" and are a foot away.

Oh, you also need a 6: hitch extension so the bike rack clears the back Lexus bumper.

Good Luck.

YMMV,

Do a search on the site, lots of threads. I put a Drawtite hitch on my 350h, sticks down below the bumper a bit but does the job for our bike rack. Search on their web site for the part number. Easy to install, kick sensor works 95% of the time.

Way too costly, IMO. Apparently, the dealer supplied hitch requires the removal of the rear bumper cover and it looks to be a PITA to install. I purchased the 2" Draw-Tite from Trailer Jacks and installed it by myself in about 1.5 hours, give or take. Installation is fairly easy and the four threaded bolt holes on the frame are already there. Cost was $215.58, delivered to my door. I chose the Draw-Tite, as the crossbar is located behind the bumper cover. The crossbar on the Curt is visible below the cover. Only the receiver shows on the Draw-Tite, and you only need to lower the muffler assembly about six inches for installation. The bumper cover stays in place. https://www.trailerjacks.com/trailer...#4276/classic/

They are aftermarket, courtesy of Amazon.

I didn't want to do the hitch and opted for this: https://saris.com/products/bones-ex-2-bike

It's worked well for me. 70lb max, I believe.

I used the Saris bones for a few years on a minivan. The paint got scratched badly by the lower legs. I had to tighten the straps on every rest stops.

Sorry to hear that. No such issues for me, but it's less than a year old.

How did you install the top hooks? I have the same rack, tried to install, but the hooks are attached to the top of the trunk, which is made of either plastic or very thin metal. I am not sure it will hold two heavy bikes. I used to have Volvo XC60. On that car I was able to get the hook connected to the steel frame behind the trunk door and it was very safe. With Lexus NX, I am not sure...

I just installed the same draw-tite hitch. Much higher capacity than the Curt or $$$dealer $$$$ hitch. Please tell about the wiring harness-. where purchased, brand, cost, self installed?? I was able to rent a lift at a garage to install the hitch, made it really easy. For others to note, the bolt holes are covered with a thin plastic sealer , just poke a hole in it and insert the bolts. There is a tow bracket on the passenger side that needs to be removed. Put the tow bracket bolts back in place to seal the holes. I got my draw-tite hitch at via web Walmart for $199 Feb 2024.
