That is one good alternative to look at it. Another is that there are people who have worked their way or started at the the Toyota brand, and want something very very nice. So someone who has some passion for Toyota will see Lexus as something they like and admire and if they have the money, an LC is it. I would love an LC if had the cash to spend on one.

Pole Position
So how many Corollas does Toyota need to sell to earn as much margin as one LC? You brought it up so I assume you have the answer. And no I'm not flaming the thread just for the sake of it. Lexus is wasting resources on these super low volume cars when the "new" GX will be super old still.

I disagree.
I know what you are trying to do. You know I do not know and you do not know yourself, however common sense will tell you that the markup for a LC500 is much higher than it is for a base Corolla. You need to sell multiple Corolla's to earn the profit of one LC. It does not cost Toyota 10X the amount to build an LC than it does a Corolla. Just looking a simply sales figures for an LC is not enough.

Lexus LC Convertible Prototype Brings Its Good Looks To Goodwood
The prototype previews what we can expect of a production model.
In ranking the most beautiful cars on sale today, the Lexus LC 500 coupe would be near the top of our list. Its concept-car styling paired with a posh, velvety interior makes it one of the most eye-catching cars on sale today. So, how does one make such a statement car even more awe-inspiring?Rip its roof off, of course.
That's exactly what Lexus did at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed. The camo-covered LC Convertible prototype is making its debut in the U.K., and though the near-final design doesn't deviate much from the LC Convertible concept we saw back at the Detroit Auto Show in January, it's as striking as ever... from what we can tell.
