When switching wheels and tires i came across info that the speedo in the 460's show a little too fast. The speedometer is more accurate with the 19" tire spec. Further, the 245/40/20 tire is.accurate as well.

The speedometer in the LS is about 2MPH fast. Every Toyota product I have owned has been the same. It's interesting if you reset your average speed, that speed is accurate.

They must intentionally make their speedometers 2MPH fast. Even the digital speedo in our old Prius was 2MPH fast.

The 19's and 20's knock out that 2-3mph error.

They won't if the overall diameter of the tires is the same. Factory 19s with factory tires for instance will register the same speedometer readings.

Took the words out of my mouth. The dark chrome ones look nice, I would know . Even though I really like the 19" sport wheels, I would love those in black chrome.

To add to that, I would look for PVD wheels vs actual chrome plated wheels...

Its hard to find Telios wheels anymore in the original smoke chrome color. Most of the ones I can find online are bright chrome PVD.

Vs the 18s I have in chrome:

By the way here are your "turbine wheels" in chrome:

I would consider trading the dark chrome ones for the 19" sport wheels.

Thanks, Steve. The Teleios wheels were OEM in the 2007-2009 MY. It looks nice but it may be hard to find a good set of these rims.
If I stick with the 19" turbine (will get new tires next year), I will get it chrome PVDd.

I see the Teleios wheels all over the place online PVD'd:

https://detroitwheelandtire.com/hol-...-set-of-4.html

Here are the wheels you have $700 core exchange for PVD chrome:

https://detroitwheelandtire.com/hol-...-set-of-4.html

Or black chrome, their black chrome finish is a little dark to me. I'd love it 1/2 way between this and bright chrome:

I think ultimately you will find that the difference you will gain in ride comfort going to the 18s isn't worth the ~ $1,000 its going to cost you to go to a different style wheel vs just exchanging yours for the same style in chrome.

The math is conclusive. There are a few posts that suggest the 19in. is accurate by design and not by chance.

Tire size - overall diameter
235/50/18 - 27.3 in.
245/45/19 - 27.7 in.
245/40/20 - 27.7 in.
*275/35/20 - 27.6 in.
275/30/21 - 27.6 in.
245/30/22 - 27.8 in.

Then why have the 6 other Toyota products I've owned all also been exactly 2MPH fast? Varying models, wheel diameters, etc. Thats not a coincidence. If I had gotten 19s on my LS460 somehow it would be the only one that wasn't? Not buying it. 1998 LS400, 2003 ES300, 2004 LS430, 2004 Toyota Prius, 2010 ES350, 2013 GS350, 2015 LS460...every one was 2MPH fast.

The stock sizes are 235/50/18 and 245/45/19, thats about a 1MPH speedometer difference. I'd bet money if I drove a LS with sock 19s (meaning it shipped that way) mysteriously the speedometer would still be 2MPH fast. (meaning, the calibration is wheel size dependent). Clearly from my experience, Toyotas spec is to have the dash speedometer read 2MPH fast.

If you put 19s on a car that shipped with 18s, the math would tell you your speedometer would now be 1MPH fast.

My wheels were purchased new. They're factory with a factory "hyper black" finish, not really chrome. It's a black base coat and hyper silver top coat. Looks bright in direct sunlight and really dark in low light, which really appeals to me. I like them a lot and I definitely like the look of the 19s over the 18s. It doesn't sound like a big difference, but it sure looks different.

The factory 18s I had were the same finish.

I'd bet you all the speedometers are calibrated exactly the same. Different speedos for different wheels to make sure the error is propagated? Doubt that, this is Toyota not RR or Bentley. If the OP puts 18's on his car the speedo will go out 1-2mph. If your theory is correct...the 18's would put him 2-4 mph slower on the dashboard smh. I would advise to stay far away from the 18's in this scenario. An additional 1/2 inch of rubber is not worth it.

The speedometer doesn't have to be different, just the calibration. They put separate door stickers on, what's a simple reprogramming of the ECU?

His car has 19s from the factory. I bet his speedo is 2MPH slow.

Either a tech, or someone with the 19's would have to offer that info. And If you're right, the speedometer would be 4mph slow by the time the 18's are installed. In a day where precision is valued; can't imagine having a "-4mph speedo" on purpose. I'm sure we can get to the bottom of this by the day's end
