Default HID bulbs for Rx 350 2008 awd

Hi, I am looking to purchase a pair of HID Bulbs for my RX. The original light looks horrible and I am looking to purchase the following... I can just plug and play no kit required right? Thanks

EDIT: oh by the way, where do you guys recommend I purchase the bulbs from. Thanks

D2S bulb is plug and play as long as you have HID lights from the factory.

bum,

Need to install HID, is it even possible that the RX comes with ballast but not HID bulbs?

EDIT: Nvm, I chat with a lexus rep online and found out that it does not come with a ballast, I need to purchase the whole HID conversion kit, does anyone has any recommendation? Thanks

There are three headlight configurations:

1. Halogen (H11)
2. HID (D2S)
3. HID with AFS (D2S)

If you have AFS by default you have HID which is the reason that question was asked. If you do not have AFS then you have to determine what you have physically. You say you have D2S bulbs installed already. So, that means you have just the base HID system. New bulbs are all that is in order.

If you had the base halogen system you would have H11 bulbs installed. Any upgrade to HID at that point would require additional ballasts, etc.

I think it's better if I look up with VIN from Lexus. If not I will just take out a bulb and look at it :-(

The VIN itself contains no information regarding packages which would allow you to know if you have HID or not. You can, however, take your VIN to the local Lexus dealership Parts Department and they can look in their system to see what you have.

If you are convinced you have D2S bulbs installed then you have HID. I do not understand what you are confused about. Are you not convinced on what bulbs you have?

I was looking at the manual and I saw the type of bulbs as D2S but I might be wrong. I will just take it out and take a look, it's seem to have a lot of room with the RX comparing to the IS.

If you do not have headlight washers there is a good bet you only have the standard halogen H11 bulbs. Any upgrade to HID would require ballasts, etc.

I have an 04 330 with HIDs, but no AFS. I recently (about a month ago) changed out my bulbs to Osram Cool Blue Intense D2S bulbs. Much brighter than Phillips 85122+, and they are 5000K without any loss of lumen output. The downside is that they are pricey, but are worth the money in my opinion.

For those who prefer 4300K over 5000K, Osram also makes Silverstar bulbs.

The debate over which of these two bulbs is better is huge; just check out hidplanet.com

Here are a couple links to videos so you can compare the two.

Cool Blue Intense (CBI)

Silverstar (SVS)

Here is where you can buy them.
CBI http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...ducts_id=10591
SVS http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=257

And here is a link to a comparison between a new CBI bulb and an 8 year old OEM bulb on a Mazda 3.

Personally, I would not buy a HID bulb from ijdmtoy. I would spend the extra money and at least get a genuine Phillips 85122 or 85122+ bulb. I know the oem bulb that I pulled out of mine was a 85122+. I'm sorry in advance for not taking comparison pics of mine when I changed them, but I suppose I could take some night shots if requested.

UPDATE 4/1/14: I believe Osram no longer makes the Silverstar D2S bulbs. To the best of my knowledge, they have been replaced with Osram Xenarc 66240 Nightbreakers, which are also 4300K color temp. There are available here.
